Verse 55 from surah Al-Kahf

﴿وَمَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا إِذْ جَاءَهُمُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا﴾
[ الكهف: 55]

اور لوگوں کے پاس جب ہدایت آگئی تو ان کو کس چیز نے منع کیا کہ ایمان لائیں۔ اور اپنے پروردگار سے بخشش مانگیں۔ بجز اس کے کہ (اس بات کے منتظر ہوں کہ) انہیں بھی پہلوں کا سا معاملہ پیش آئے یا ان پر عذاب سامنے آموجود ہو

Surah Al-Kahf Full Urdu

(1) یعنی تکذیب کی صورت میں ان پر بھی اسی طرح عذاب آئے، جیسے پہلے لوگوں پر آیا۔
(2) یعنی اہل مکہ ایمان لانے کے لئے ان دو باتوں میں سے کسی ایک کے منتظر ہیں۔ لیکن ان عقل کے اندھوں کو یہ پتہ نہیں کہ اس کے بعد ایمان کی کوئی حیثیت ہی نہیں یا اس کے بعد ایمان لانے کا ان کو موقع ہی کب ملے گا؟۔

اُن کے سامنے جب ہدایت آئی تو اسے ماننے اور اپنے رب کے حضور معافی چاہنے سے آخر اُن کوکس چیز نے روک دیا؟ اِس کے سوا اور کچھ نہیں کہ وہ منتظر ہیں کہ اُن کے ساتھ بھی وہی کچھ ہو جو پچھلی قوموں کے ساتھ ہو چکا ہے، یا یہ کہ وہ عذاب کو سامنے آتے دیکھ لیں!


Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(18:55) (The question is) what kept them back from accepting guidance when it came before them and from asking the forgiveness of their Lord? It is nothing more than this that they are waiting for the same thing to happen to them that visited the former communities; or that they should see the scourge of Allah coming before them! *52

And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to meaning

*52) This is to warn the people that the Qur'an has left no stone unturned in making the Truth plain. It has employed all kinds of arguments, parables, similitudes and used all the possible effective ways to appeal to the heart and the mind of man, and adopted the best possible style. In short, nothing has been left that could persuade the people to accept the Truth. If, in spite of this, they do not accept the truth, it is obvious that they are waiting for God's scourge like the one that visited the former communities to make them realize their error.

Wama manaAAa alnnasa an yuminoo ith jaahumu alhuda wayastaghfiroo rabbahum illa an tatiyahum sunnatu alawwaleena aw yatiyahumu alAAathabu qubulan

And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.

और जब लोगों के पास हिदायत आ चुकी तो (फिर) उनको ईमान लाने और अपने परवरदिगार से मग़फिरत की दुआ माँगने से (उसके सिवा और कौन) अम्र मायने है कि अगलों की सी रीत रस्म उनको भी पेश आई या हमारा अज़ाब उनके सामने से (मौजूद) हो

হেদায়েত আসার পর এ প্রতীক্ষাই শুধু মানুষকে বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করতে এবং তাদের পালনকর্তার কাছে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করতে বিরত রাখে যে, কখন আসবে তাদের কাছে পূর্ববর্তীদের রীতিনীতি অথবা কখন আসবে তাদের কাছেআযাব সামনাসামনি।

  7. اور اگر ہم چاہتے تو ہر شخص کو ہدایت دے دیتے۔ لیکن میری طرف سے
  8. مومنو! خدا اور اس کے رسول کی فرمانبرداری کرو اور جو تم میں سے صاحب
  9. (موسیٰ نے) کہا کہ جو بھول مجھ سے ہوئی اس پر مواخذہ نہ کیجیئے اور
  10. اور خدا نے رزق (ودولت) میں بعض کو بعض پر فضیلت دی ہے تو جن
