Surah Anam ayat 116 Tafsir Quran 6:116

﴿وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ﴾
[ الأنعام: 116]

6:116 And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.

If you obey most of those on earth that is the disbelievers they will lead you astray from the way of God from His religion; they follow only supposition when they dispute with you concerning the status of carrion saying ‘What God has killed is more worthy of your consumption than what you kill yourselves!’; they are merely guessing speaking falsehood in this matter.

And if you open your heart’s ears to people at large domiciled on earth, most of them shall alienate you from Allahs purpose and lead you in the wrong; they only follow the false suppositions and the incitement arising from the state of their minds and feelings; they simply lie and indeed they lie in their teeth

Most People are Misguided Allah states that most of the people of the earth, are misguided.
Allah said in other Ayat, وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الاٌّوَّلِينَ ( And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them. ) 37:71 and, وَمَآ أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ ( And most of mankind will not believe even if you eagerly desire it. )12:103 They are misguided, yet they have doubts about their way, and they rely on wishful thinking and delusions. إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلاَّ يَخْرُصُونَ ( They follow nothing but conjecture, and they do nothing but lie. ) Thus, they fulfill Allah's decree and decision concerning them, هُوَ أَعْلَمُ مَن يَضِلُّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ( It is He Who knows best who strays from His way. ) and facilitates that for him, وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ ( And He knows best the rightly guided. ) He facilitates that for them, all of them are facilitated for what He created them. فَكُلُواْ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُم بِآيَـتِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ

(6:116) (O Muhammad!) If you obey the majority of those who live on earth, they will lead you away from Allah's path. They only follow idle fancies, indulging in conjecture. *83

And if you obey most of those meaning

One need not follow the way of life of the majority, for the majority tend to follow their conjectures and fancies rather than sound knowledge.
Their beliefs, their ideas and concepts, their philosophies of life, the guiding principles of their conduct, their laws - all these are founded on conjecture.
On the contrary, the way of life which pleases God, was revealed by Him and hence is based on true knowledge rather than conjecture.
Instead of trying to discover the way of life of the majority, a seeker after truth should, therefore, persevere in the way prescribed by God, even if he finds himself to be a solitary traveller.

( If thou obeyedst ) O Muhammad ( most of those on earth ) i.e. the Meccan leaders who were Abu’l-Ahwas Malik Ibn ’Awf al-Jushami, Budayl Ibn Warqa’ al-Khuza’i and Julays Ibn Warqa’ al-Khuza’i ( they would mislead thee far from Allah’s way ) in the Sacred Precinct. ( They follow naught but an opinion ) they pronounce nothing but surmise, ( and they do but guess ) they lie to the believers when they say to them: that which Allah immolates is better than that which you slaughter with your own knives.

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but lie.
