23:117 And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

Quran 23:117 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And he who calls on another god along with God has no proof thereof lā burhāna lahu bihi an extra explicative adjectival qualification that has no other syntactical signification his reckoning his requital will indeed be with his Lord. Truly the disbelievers will not be successful they will not be felicitous.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And he who invokes, or incorporates with Allah, another llah without presenting evidence convincing the mind shall have much to answer for. This is in reply to the charges put against him by Allah, his Creator, in Day of Judgement. Never shall the infidels who deny Allah and His statutes find an instance of physical or spiritual prosperity Hereafter
Quran 23:117 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Shirk is the Worst form of Wrong, its Practitioner shall never succeed.
Allah threatens those who associate anything else withHim and worship anything with Him.
He informs that those whoassociate others with Allah:
لاَ بُرْهَانَ لَهُ
( of whom he has no proof ), meaning no evidence for what he says.
Then Allah says:
( And whoever invokes, besides Allah, any other god, of whom he has no proof; ) this is a conditional sentence, whose fulfilling clause is:
فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ
( then his reckoning is only with his Lord. ) meaning, Allah will call him to account for that.
Then Allah tells us:
إِنَّهُ لاَ يُفْلِحُ الْكَـفِرُونَ
( Surely, disbelievers will not be successful. ) meaning, they will not be successful with Him on the Day of Resurrection; they will not prosper or be saved.
( And say: "My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy!" ) Here Allah is teaching us to recite this supplication, for forgiveness, in a general sense, means wiping away sins and concealing them from people, and mercy means guiding a person and helping him to say and do good things.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(23:117) Therefore, if some one invokes any other deity along with Allah, whereof he has no proof, *104 he shall have to give an account to his Lord. *105 Such disbelievers can never attain "success" *106
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity meaning
*104) It may also be translated as: " The one who invokes any other deity along with Allah, has nothing to support him in this act. "
*105) That is, he cannot escape accountability.
*106) Again, the reference is to those who will attain we success ana to those who will be deprived of it.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
He who crieth unto) worships ( any other god ) among idols ( along with Allah hath no proof thereof ) no proof for worshipping other than Allah. ( His reckoning ) his chastisement ( is only with his Lord ) in the Hereafter. ( Lo! disbelievers will not be successful ) disbelievers will not be safe from Allah’s chastisement nor escape from it.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And whoever invokes (or worships), besides Allah, any other ilah (god), of whom he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely! Al-Kafirun (the disbelievers in Allah and in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, pagans, idolaters, etc.) will not be successful.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
