[ الإسراء: 53]
17:53 And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.

Quran 17:53 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And tell My servants the believers to speak to disbelievers that word which is finer. For Satan indeed incites ill feeling he makes trouble between them and Satan is indeed man’s manifest enemy his enmity is evident. The ‘finer word’ is to say this
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Tell My servants O Muhammad who declare or state in words a specified fact, thought, opinion or intention, an event or a remark or the like to say what is friendly, favourable and laudatory and to keep a civil tongue in their heads, for AL-Shaytan is on the alert for an occasion to divide mankind and set them at variance and to stir up enmity among them. Indeed AL-Shaytan has always been to man an avowed enemy
Quran 17:53 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
People should speak Good Words with Politeness
Allah commands His servant Muhammad ﷺ to tell the believing servants of Allah that they should address one another in their conversations and discussions with the best and politest of words, for if they do not do that, Shaytan will sow discord among them, and words will lead to actions, so that evil and conflicts and fights will arise among them.
For Shaytan is the enemy of Adam and his descendants, and has been since he refused to prostrate to Adam.
His enmity is obvious and manifest.
For this reason it is forbidden for a man to point at his Muslim brother with an iron instrument, for Shaytan may cause him to strike him with it.
(Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
«لَا يُشِيرَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى أَخِيهِ بِالسِّلَاحِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي أَحَدُكُمْ لَعَلَّ الشَّيْطَانَ أَنْ يَنْزِعَ فِي يَدِهِ فَيَقَعَ فِي حُفْرَةٍ مِنَ النَّار»
( No one of you should point at his brother with a weapon, for he does not know whether Shaytan will cause him to strike him with it and thus be thrown into a pit of Fire. ) Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded this Hadith with the chain of narration from `Abdur-Razzaq.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(17:53) And O Muhammad!, say to My servants, *57 "They should utter only that which is the best of all. *58 In reality, it is Satan who tries to sow discord between human beings. The fact is that Satan is the avowed enemy of man. *59
And tell My servants to say that meaning
*57) " The believers. "
*58) The believers have been enjoined to say only the best things even in their discussion with the disbelievers and other opponents of their Faith.
They should neither use harsh words nor make exaggerated statements.
They should be cool in their conversation and say only what is true and dignified inspite of the provoking behaviour of the opponents.
*59) The believers have been forewarned to guard against the provocations of Satan, as if to say, " While answering your opponents, if you feel that you are being aroused to anger, you should at once understand that it is Satan who is exciting you in order to do harm to your dispute, in which he wants to engage human beings for sowing discord between them.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Tell My bondmen ) ’Umar and his fellow believers ( to speak ) to say to the disbelievers ( that which is kindlier ) i.e. greet them and be kind to them. ( Lo! the devil soweth discord among them ) when you treat them harshly. ( Lo! the devil is for man an open foe ) his enmity is quite manifest. This injunction was before they were commanded to fight.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Shaitan (Satan) verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
