وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا(1)

 Per il sole e il suo fulgore,

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا(2)

 per la luna quando lo segue,

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا(3)

 per il giorno quando rischiara [la terra],

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا(4)

 per la notte quando la copre,

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا(5)

 per il cielo e Ciò che lo ha edificato,

وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا(6)

 per la terra e Ciò che l'ha distesa,

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا(7)

 per l'anima e Ciò che l'ha formata armoniosamente

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا(8)

 ispirandole empietà e devozione.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا(9)

 Ha successo invero chi la purifica,

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا(10)

 è perduto chi la corrompe.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا(11)

 I Thamûd, per arroganza, tacciarono di menzogna,

إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا(12)

 quando si alzò il più miserabile di loro.

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا(13)

 Il Messaggero di Allah aveva detto loro: “[Questa] è la cammella di Allah, [abbia] il suo turno per bere”. [Il profeta Sâlih_ aveva stabilito che la cammella, che Allah (gloria a Lui l'Altissimo) aveva miracolosamente tratto da una roccia, avesse diritto di bere, un giorno su due, all'unica fonte di cui disponevano i Thamûd. In seguito, però, quelli rinnegarono il patto e uccisero la cammella, suscitando la collera e il castigo di Allah. (Vedi anche XI, 64)]

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا(14)

 Lo tacciarono di impostura e le tagliarono i garetti: li annientò il loro Signore per il loro peccato,

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا(15)

 senza temere [di ciò] alcuna conseguenza.
