Verse 44 from surah Al-Hajj

﴿وَأَصْحَابُ مَدْيَنَ ۖ وَكُذِّبَ مُوسَىٰ فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلْكَافِرِينَ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ﴾
[ الحج: 44]

اور مدین کے رہنے والے بھی۔ اور موسیٰ بھی تو جھٹلائے جاچکے ہیں لیکن میں کافروں کو مہلت دیتا رہا پھر ان کو پکڑ لیا۔ تو (دیکھ لو) کہ میرا عذاب کیسا (سخت) تھا

Surah Al-Hajj Full Urdu

(1) اس میں نبی (صلى الله عليه وسلم) کو تسلی دی جا رہی ہے کہ یہ کفار مکہ اگر آپ کو جھٹلا رہے ہیں تو یہ نئی بات نہیں ہے پچھلی قومیں بھی اپنے پیغمبروں کے ساتھ یہی کچھ کرتی رہی ہیں اور میں بھی انہیں مہلت دیتا رہا۔ پھر جب ان کا وقت مہلت ختم ہوگیا تو انہیں تباہ برباد کر دیا گیا۔ اس میں تعریض وکنایہ ہے مشرکین مکہ کے لیے کہ تکذیب کے باوجود تم ابھی تک مؤاخذہ الہی سے بچے ہوئے ہو تو یہ نہ سمجھ لینا کہ ہمارا کوئی مؤاخذہ کرنے والا نہیں بلکہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے مہلت ہے جو وہ ہر قوم کو دیا کرتا ہے لیکن اگر وہ اس اس مہلت سے فائدہ اٹھا کر اطاعت وانقیاد کا راستہ اختیار نہیں کرتی تو پھر اسے ہلاک یا مسلمانوں کے ذریعے سے مغلوب اور ذلت و رسوائی سے دوچار کردیا جاتا ہے۔
(2) یعنی کس طرح میں نے انہیں اپنی نعمتوں سے محروم کرکے عذاب و ہلاکت سے دو چار کر دیا۔

اور اہل مدین بھی جھٹلا چکے ہیں اور موسیٰؑ بھی جھٹلائے جا چکے ہیں ان سب منکرینِ حق کو میں نے پہلے مُہلت دی، پھر پکڑ لیا اب دیکھ لو کہ میری عقوبت کیسی تھی


Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(22:44) and the dwellers of Midian had treated their Prophets as false and likewise Moses was also rejected. At first I gave respite to all these disbelievers and then seized them. *88 Now you can see for yourselves how terrible was My chastisement ! *89 There are (the ruins of) many a wicked habitation which We destroyed: today they are lying upside down upon their roofs.

*88) The instances of some peoples who rejected their Prophets have been cited to impress that they were given respite to reform themselves before they were punished. Therefore, "O people of Makkah, you should not be deluded by the delay in your punishment. When the term of respite comes to an end, you shall also be punished like the former people, if you do not mend your ways in the meantime" .
*89) The Arabic word Nakir is very comprehensive and implies two meanings:
(1) Displeasure at the evil conduct of the other, and
(2) a terrible punishment which disfigures the culprit so badly that he cannot even be recognized. The sentence therefore will mean: "Just see when I seized them for this evil conduct, how terrible was My chastisement".

And the inhabitants of Madyan. And Moses was denied, so I prolonged enjoyment for the disbelievers; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

और मदियन के रहने वाले (अपने-अपने पैग़म्बरों को) झुठला चुके हैं और मूसा (भी) झुठलाए जा चुके हैं तो मैंने काफिरों को चन्द ढील दे दी फिर (आख़िर) उन्हें ले डाला तो तुमने देखा मेरा अज़ाब कैसा था

এবং মাদইয়ানের অধিবাসীরা এবং মিথ্যাবাদী বলা হয়েছিল মূসাকেও। অতঃপর আমি কাফেরদেরকে সুযোগ দিয়েছিলাম এরপর তাদেরকে পাকড়াও করেছিলাম অতএব কি ভীষণ ছিল আমাকে অস্বীকৃতির পরিণাম।
