Quran 14:11 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
Their messengers said to them ‘We are but mortals like you as you have said; but God is gracious to whomever He will of His servants by way of assigning prophethood. And it is not ours to bring you any warrant save by the leave of God by His command for we are servants enthralled; and in God let believers put their trust let them have confidence in Him.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Their Messengers said to them: But we are only mortals like you and Allah imparts His grace to those of His worshippers whom He chooses as He will, and it is not for us nor is it within our power to present you with the evidence but with Allahs delegated power and authorization. And in Allah do those whose hearts have been touched with the divine hand put their trust

The Argument between the Prophets and the Disbelievers
Allah narrates to us the arguments that ensued between the disbelievers and their Messengers.
When their nations doubted the Message of worshipping Allah alone without partners, the Messengers said,
( (What! ) Can there be a doubt about Allah...) about His Lordship and having the exclusive right to be worshipped alone, being the only Creator of all creatures Verily, none besides Allah is worthy of worship, alone without partners with Him.
Most nations were, and still are, affirming the existence of the Creator, but they call upon intermediaries besides Him whom they think will benefit them or bring them closer to Allah.
Their Messengers said to them,
( He calls you that He may forgive you of your sins ) in the Hereafter,
( and give you respite for a term appointed. ), in this worldly life.
Allah said in other Ayat,
( Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding grace to every owner of grace. ) 10:3 However, their nations went on arguing against their prophethood, after they had to submit to the first evidence ( that Allah Alone created everything ).
Disbelievers reject Prophethood because the Messengers were Humans!
Their nations said,
( You are no more than human beings like us! ) so why should we follow you just because you say so, even though we did not witness a miracle by your hands,
( Then bring us a clear authority. ), a miracle of our choice.
( Their Messengers said to them: "We are no more than human beings like you..." ) affirming that truly, they were only human being like their nations,
( but Allah bestows His grace to whom He wills of His servants. ), with prophethood and messengership which is His choice,
( It is not ours to bring you an authority ) according to your choice,
( (except by the permission of Allah.
), after we beg Him and He provides us with a miracle,
( And in Allah (alone ) let the believers put their trust.) in all their affairs.
Their Messengers said to them next,
( And why should we not put our trust in Allah ), after He had guided us to the best, most clear and plain way,
( And we shall certainly bear with patience all the hurt you may cause us ), such as foolish actions and abusive statements,
( and in Allah (alone ) let those who trust, put their trust.)
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(14:11) They answered, "You are no more than human beings like ourselves. *19 You intend to debar us from the worship of the deities whom our forefathers have been worshipping. Well, bring a clear Sign. " *20 The Messengers replied, "It is true that we are no more than human beings like you, but Allah shows His favour to anyone of His servants He pleases. *21 And it is not in our power to bring any Sign for you. A Sign can come only by Allah's permission. And in Allah alone should the believers put their trust.
Their messengers said to them, "We are meaning
*19) The disbelievers meant to imply: " You are a human being like us in every respect: you eat, drink and sleep like us and have wife and children like us.
You feel hungry and thirsty, and suffer from heat and cold, disease and calamities like us.
In short, you have every human limitation like us, and we see nothing unusual and extraordinary in you to induct us to accept you as a Prophet and believe that God communicates with you and sends His angels to you. "
*20) That is, " If you still insist that you are a Prophet, bring a tangible proof of your appointment so as to convince us that you have really been sent by God and your Message is from Him. "
*21) That is, " No doubt we are human beings like you but it is Allah's will that He has chosen us from among you and blessed us with the knowledge of the Truth and keen discernment.
And this is Allah's will and He has full powers to bestow anything on anyone He wills.
We are not in a position to ask Him to send that blessing to you or to anyone else: nor can we deny the realities which have been shown to us. "

( It is not ours ) it behoves us not ( to bring you a warrant ) a decree or proof ( unless by the permission of Allah ) by the command of Allah. ( In Allah let believers put their trust! ) He says: the believers should rely on Allah.
