English - Sahih International

22:15 Whoever should think that Allah will not support [Prophet Muhammad] in this world and the Hereafter - let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off [his breath], and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]?

Quran 22:15 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

Whoever supposes that God will not help him namely Muhammad (s) His Prophet in this world and the Hereafter let him extend a rope to the ceiling to the roof of his house fixing it there and tying it to his neck and let him hang himself that is let him choke to death because of it by severing his soul from any existence on the earth as reported in the various Sahīh compilations. Then let him see whether his strategy against the Prophet being helped dispels that which enrages him about it. In other words let him choke to death with rage because of it for it is inevitable.

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

He who feels that Allah shall not afford His Prophet help here nor Hereafter, may attach a rope to the ceiling or stretch a rope heavenward to hang himself and cuts off his own breath or tries to stop the Prophets help from heaven and sees whether such a plan or a scheme shall annul his rage

Quran 22:15 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

The Reward of the Righteous The mention of the misguided who are doomed is followed by mention of the righteous who are blessed.
They are those who believe firmly in their hearts and confirm their faith by their actions, doing all kinds of righteous deeds and avoiding evil actions.
Because of this, they will inherit dwellings in the lofty ranks of the gardens of Paradise.
So Allah tells us that He sends those astray and guides these, and says: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيدُ ( Verily, Allah does what He wills. )

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(22:15) As for the one who presumes that Allah will neither help him in this world nor in the Hereafter, he should (if he can) ascend the sky by a rope and cut a hole into it and then peep through it and see for himself whether any device of his can avert his doom, which he abhors *22

Whoever should think that Allah will not meaning

*22) There is a great divergence of opinion about the exact meaning of this verse.
Some of the interpretations are:
( 1 ) One who presumes that Allah will not help him ( Muhammad: Allah's peace be upon him ), he should hang himself by a rope from the ceiling.

( 2 ) One who presumes that Allah will not help him ( Muhammad: Allah's peace be upon him ), he should ascend thesky by a rope and try to stop Allah's help.

( 3 ) One who presumes that Allah will not help him ( Muhammad: Allah's peace be upon him ), he should ascend the sky and stop the process of Revelations.

( 4 ) One who presumes that Allah will not help him ( Muhammad: Allah's peace be upon him ), he should ascend the sky and stop his provisions.

( 5 ) The one who presumes that Allah will not help him ( the presumer himself ), he should hang himself by a rope from the ceiling of his house.

( 6 ) The one who presumes that Allah will not help him ( the presumer himself ), he should try to ascend the sky to seek help.

The first four interpretations are obviously irrelevant to the context, and the last two, though they might fit in with the context, do not explain the real meaning of the verse.
If we consider this in the context, it becomes obvious that the one who presumes is " the one who serves Allah standing on the border " .
This is to rebuke him, as if to say, " You may do whatever you can to change the decrees of Allah, but you will see that no device of yours can succeed, whether these decrees are favourable to your designs or unfavourable to them.
"
Obviously, " he should ascend the sky ......
cut a hole into it "
has not been used in the literal but in the figurative sense.

Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

( Whoso is wont to think that Allah will not give him ) i.e. Muhammad ( pbuh ) ( victory in the world and the Hereafter ) through reason and proof, ( let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling ), and let him hang himself. Then let him see) let him reflect upon ( whether his strategy ) hanging himself ( dispelleth that whereat he rageth! ) i.e. regarding Muhammad ( pbuh ). It is also said that there is another way of understanding this passage: whoever thinks that Allah will not help him in this worldly life with sustenance and in the Hereafter with reward, then let him tie a rope to the roof of his house, hang himself with it and see whether killing himself will dispel his rage regarding sustenance.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

Whoever thinks that Allah will not help him (Muhammad SAW) in this world and in the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and let him strangle himself. Then let him see whether his plan will remove that whereat he rages!
