13:36 And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allah and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return."

Quran 13:36 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And those to whom We have given the Scripture such as ‘Abd Allāh b. Salām and others from among the believing Jews rejoice in that which has been revealed to you because of its according with what they have with them of revelation; and among the factions that aligned themselves against you in enmity from among the idolaters and the Jews are those who reject some of it such as the mention of the ‘Compassionate One’ al-Rahmān and all that is other than the stories related therein. Say ‘I have been commanded — in that which has been revealed to me — only to worship God and not to associate anything with Him. To Him I call and to Him shall be my return’.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Ahl AL-Kitab (The People of the Book) -the Jews- who lift to Allah their inward sight rejoice at the Quran and at all that has been revealed to you O Muhammad They find in it an extension of the basic principles of the Oneness of Allah, the validation of previous Scriptures and the unity of purpose, feeling and action. But among the sects are those who receive a part of the Quran with consenting mind and reject other parts not falling in with their vain desires. Say to them: I have been commanded to worship Allah and never to incorporate with Him other deities and to present inducements to the people to turn to Him; and to Him shall all return
Quran 13:36 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The Truthful Ones from among the People of the Scriptures rejoice at what Allah has revealed to Muhammad ﷺ
Allah said,
( Those to whom We have given the Book, ) and they adhere by it,
( rejoice at what has been revealed unto you, ) i.e.
the Qur'an, because they have evidence in their Books affirming the truth of the Qur'an and conveying the good news of its imminent revelation, just as Allah said in another Ayah,
( Those to whom We gave the Book recite it as it should be recited. ) 2:121 Allah said,
( Say: "Believe in it (the Qur'an ) or do not believe.") 17:107, until,
( Truly, the promise of our Lord must be fulfilled. ) 17:109 meaning, Allah's promise to us in our Books to send Muhammad ﷺ is true.
It is certain and will surely come to pass and be fulfilled, so all praise to our Lord, how truthful is His promise, all the thanks are due to Him,
( And they fall down on their faces weeping and it increases their humility. ) 17:109 Allah said next,
( but there are among the Ahzab (Confederates ) those who reject a part thereof.) meaning, `There are those among the sects who disbelieve in some of what was revealed to you ( O Muhammad ).' Mujahid said that,
( but there are among the Ahzab (Confederates )), refers to Jews and Christians,
( those who reject a part thereof ), meaning, `They reject a part of the truth that came down to you - O Muhammad.' Similar was reported from Qatadah and `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam.
Allah said in similar Ayat,
( And there are, certainly, among the People of the Scripture, those who believe in Allah. ) 3:199 Allah said next,
( Say: "I am commanded only to worship Allah and not to join partners with Him..." ) meaning, `I ( Muhammad ) was sent with the religion of worshipping Allah alone without partners, just as the Messengers before me,
( To Him (alone ) I call), I call the people to His path,
( and to Him is my return. ) final destination and destiny.' Allah said,
( And thus have We sent it (the Qur'an ) down to be a judgement of authority in Arabic.) Allah says, `Just as We sent Messengers before you and revealed to them Divine Books from heaven, We sent down to you the Qur'an, a judgement of authority in Arabic, as an honor for you, and We preferred you among all people with this clear, plain and unequivocal Book that,
( Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it: (it is ) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise.)' 41:42 Allah's statement,
( Were you to follow their (vain ) desires), means, their opinions,
( after the knowledge which has come to you ) from Allah, all praise to Him,
( then you will not have any Wali (protector ) or defender against Allah.) This part of the Ayah warns people of know- ledge against following the paths of misguid- ance after they had gained knowledge in ( and abided by ) the Prophetic Sunnah and the path of Muhammad ﷺ, may Allah's best peace and blessings be on him.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(13:36) O Prophet ! some of those people whom We gave the Book before you rejoice in the Book We have sent down to you while there are others among the different sections who reject some of the things contained in this. Tell them plainly "I have been commanded to worship Allah alone and prohibited from setting up a partner with him. Therefore I invite you to Him and myself turn to Him. " *55
And [the believers among] those to whom meaning
*55) This is in reply to a specific objection which was then raised by the disbelievers.
They would say, " If he has brought the same Message that was brought by the Messengers before him ( as he claims ).
why don't the Jews and the Christians who are the followers of the former Prophets come forward and welcome it? " The verse answers the objection and says that the taste followers of the former Prophets really rejoice in the Message of the Qur'an, but the false ones have been offended at it.
Then it asks the Holy Prophet not to worry at aII about this, saying, " O Prophet, you should not mind at alI whether they are pleased or offended at it.
Tell them plainly that this is the Guidance I have received from my Lord and I will follow it at alI costs. "

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Those unto whom We gave the Scripture ) the Torah, the reference here is to ’Abdullah Ibn Salam and his companions ( rejoice in that which is revealed unto thee ) of the remembrance of the All-Merciful. ( And of the clans ) i.e. the Jews ( there are who deny some of it ) some of the Qur’an, except the surah of Joseph and the portions of it in which the All-Merciful is mentioned; it is also said that the clans her refers to the Confederates, i.e. the disbelievers of Mecca as well as other disbelievers, who deny some of the Qur’an in which the All-Merciful is mentioned. ( Say ) O Muhammad: ( I am commanded only that I serve Allah ) in all sincerity ( and ascribe unto Him no partner. Unto Him I cry ) I call people unto Him, ( and unto Him is my return ) my return in the Hereafter.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
Those to whom We have given the Book (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews who embraced Islam), rejoice at what has been revealed unto you (i.e. the Quran), but there are among the Confederates (from the Jews and pagans) those who reject a part thereof. Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am commanded only to worship Allah (Alone) and not to join partners with Him. To Him (Alone) I call and to Him is my return."
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
