[ هود: 47]
11:47 [Noah] said, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers."

Quran 11:47 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
He said ‘My Lord I seek refuge in You from the sin that I should ask of You that whereof I have no knowledge. Unless You forgive me my excess and have mercy on me I shall be among the losers’.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Nuh said: O Allah, my Creator, I commit myself to You counter the consequence accruing from an invocatory prayer with a result I do not know; and unless You forgive me and have mercy on me, I will inevitably be one of those born to be losers
Quran 11:47 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
A Return to the Story of the Son of Nuh and mentioning what transpired between Nuh and Allah concerning Him
This was a request for information and an inquiry from Nuh concerning the cirumstances of his son's drowning.
فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ ابُنِى مِنْ أَهْلِى
( and said, "O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family!" ) This means, "Verily, You promised to save my family and Your promise is the truth that does not fail.
Therefore, how can he ( my son ) be drowned and You are the Most Just of the judges"
قَالَ ينُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ
( He (Allah ) said: "O Nuh! Surely, he is not of your family...") This means, "He ( your son ) is not of those whom I promised to save.
I only promised you that I would save those of your family who believe." For this reason Allah said,
وَأَهْلَكَ إِلاَّ مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ
l( and your family except him against whom the Word has already gone forth. ) 11:40 Thus, for his son, it had already been decreed that he would be drowned due to his disbelief and his opposition to his father, the Prophet of Allah, Nuh peace be upon him.
Concerning Allah's statement,
إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ
( Surely, he is not of your family; ) meaning that he ( Nuh's son ) was not among those whom Allah promised to save.
`Abdur-Razzaq recorded that Ibn `Abbas said, "He was the son of Nuh, but he opposed him in deeds and intention." `Ikrimah said in some of the modes of recitation it said here, ( إِنَّهُ عَمِلَ عَمَلًا غَيْرَ صَالِحٍ ) "Verily, he ( Nuh's son ) worked deeds that were not righteous."
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(11:47) Noah said: 'My Lord! I take refuge with You that I should ask you for that concerning which I have no knowledge. And if You do not forgive me and do not show mercy to me, I shall be among the losers. *51
[Noah] said, "My Lord, I seek refuge meaning
*51).
By relating the story of Noah's son, God has unequivocally and effectively made it clear that His justice is free from all biases, that His judgement is perfect and absolute.
The Makkan unbelievers had entertained the illusion that God's wrath would not overtake them no matter how they behaved.
They thought so because they happened to be the descendants of Abraham ( peace be on him ) and the devotees of a number of well-known gods and goddesses.
In the past, Jews and Christians also entertained, as they still entertain, illusions of the same kind.
In fact, there are also many deviant Muslims who place their reliance on false hopes.
They believe that since they are descendants or devotees of some saints, the intercession of those saints will enable them to escape God's justice.
However, the Qur'an portrays how one of the great Prophets helplessly watches his own flesh and blood drown.
In a state of severe emotional agitation, he piteously implores God to forgive his son.
In response, God rebukes him.
Thus, we see that even a person of a Prophet's ranking failed to salvage an iniquitous son.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( He said ) Noah said: ( My Lord! ) O my Lord! ( Lo! in Thee do I seek refuge (from the sin ) that I should ask of Thee) to save ( that whereof I have no knowledge ) that he deserves to be saved. ( Unless Thou forgive me ) Noah says: unless you overlook my error ( and have mercy on me ) such that You do not punish me ( I shall be among the lost ) through being punished.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
Nuh (Noah) said: "O my Lord! I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I would indeed be one of the losers."
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
