surah Ad Dukhaan aya 17 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ﴾
[ الدخان: 17]
44:17 And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger,
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishAnd verily I tested the people of Pharaoh before them, and their noble messenger came to them from Allah calling them towards His oneness and worship.
He was Moses ( peace be upon him ).

And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)],

Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawma firAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareemun
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable,
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
And indeed We tried before them Fir`awn's people, when there came to them a noble Messenger.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
