And ask the city in which we were and the caravan in (12:82)

﴿وَاسْأَلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ﴾
[ يوسف: 82]

12:82 And ask the city in which we were and the caravan in which we came - and indeed, we are truthful,"

In order to confirm that they were telling the truth, the brothers told their father to ask the people of the town where they had been, and to ask the people of the caravan they had come with, and that these people would tell him the same thing as they had.
They said they were telling the truth in what they told him about his son’s theft.

"And ask (the people of) the town where we have been, and the caravan in which we returned, and indeed we are telling the truth."

Waisali alqaryata allatee kunna feeha waalAAeera allatee aqbalna feeha wainna lasadiqoona

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

"'Ask at the town where we have been and the caravan in which we returned, and (you will find) we are indeed telling the truth.'"

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

"And ask (the people of) the town where we have been, and the caravan in which we returned; and indeed we are telling the truth."
