28:40 So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

So I seized him and his armies, and threw them into the sea, destroying them by drowning them all.
O Messenger! Ponder over what the outcome and ending of the oppressors was: it was destruction.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

So We seized him and his hosts, and We threw them all into the sea (and drowned them). So behold (O Muhammad SAW) what was the end of the Zalimun [wrong-doers, polytheists and those who disbelieved in the Oneness of their Lord (Allah), or rejected the advice of His Messenger Musa (Moses)].

Faakhathnahu wajunoodahu fanabathnahum fee alyammi faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu alththalimeena

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong!

*56) Allah in these words has depicted their worthlessness and insignificance as against their false pride. They thought they were big people, but when the respite Allah had granted them to reform themselves came to an end, they were thrown into the sea like so much rubbish.
