﴿وَإِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْسًا فَادَّارَأْتُمْ فِيهَا ۖ وَاللَّهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ﴾
[ البقرة: 72]

2:72 And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.

Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

Allah reminds the Israelites about when they killed one of their own.
They accused each other of it, each rejecting the accusation of having killed him, and accusing someone else, until they fought.
But Allah revealed what they were hiding about the murder of the innocent person.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding.

Waith qataltum nafsan faiddaratum feeha waAllahu mukhrijun ma kuntum taktumoona

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

Remember ye slew a man and fell into a dispute among yourselves as to the crime: But Allah was to bring forth what ye did hide.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

And (remember) when you killed a man and disagreed among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were Taktumun.
