35:13 He causes the night to enter the day, and He causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon - each running [its course] for a specified term. Quran 35:13 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

He God makes the night pass enter into the day so that it becomes longer and He makes the day pass into the night so that it becomes longer and He has disposed the sun and the moon each of them moving in its course to an appointed term — to the Day of Resurrection. That is God your Lord; to Him belongs all sovereignty. As for those on whom you call whom you worship besides Him in other words other than Him — and they are the idols — they do not possess even so much as the husk of a date-stone.

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

He causes the night to lose its character and identity* by absorption into the day and He causes the day to lose its character and identity by absorption into the night and He reduced the sun and the moon to a state of subservience, each describing its orbit for a determined period of time. This is Allah, your Creator, Who has the sovereignty of the universe and its supreme controlling power, whereas those you invoke besides Him do not own even as little as the integument of the smallest seed nor do they exercise over it the least control

Quran 35:13 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

The gods of the Idolators do not even own a Qitmir Another aspect of His perfect power and might is that He has subjugated the night with its darkness and the day with its light.
He takes from the length of the one and adds it to the shortness of the other, until they become equal.
Then He takes from the latter and adds to the former, so one becomes long and the other becomes short, so they take from one another in summer and in winter. وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ( And He has subjected the sun and the moon, ) and the stars and planets, with their light.
All of them run in their appointed courses and in the manner prescribed for them, as decreed by the Almighty, All-Knowing. كُـلٌّ يَجْرِى لاًّجَـلٍ مُّسَـمًّى each runs its course for a term appointed.
means, until the Day of Resurrection. ذَلِكُـمُ اللَّهُ رَبُّـكُمْ Such is Allah, your Lord؟ means, the One Who has done all this is the Almighty Lord besides Whom there is no other true God. وَالَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ( And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, ) means, `the idols and false gods whom you claim to be in the form of angels who are close to Allah,' مَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِن قِطْمِيرٍ own not even a Qitلm0r.
Ibn Abba0s, may Allah be pleased with him, Muja0hid, Ikrimah, Ata0 , Atلiyah Al- Awfi, Al-Hلasan, Qata0dah and others said, This is the thread that is attached to the pit of a date.
In other words, they do not possess anything in the heavens or on earth, not even anything equivalent to this Qitلm0r.
Then Allah says: إِن تَدْعُوهُمْ لاَ يَسْمَعُواْ دُعَآءَكُمْ ( If you invoke them, they hear not your call; ) means, `the gods upon whom you call instead of Allah, do not hear your supplication, because they are inanimate and have no soul in them.' وَلَوْ سَمِعُواْ مَا اسْتَجَابُواْ لَكُمْ ( and if (in case ) they were to hear, they could not grant it to you.) means, `they are not able to do any of the things that you ask them for.' وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَـمَةِ يَكْفُرُونَ بِشِرْكِـكُمْ And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them means, `they will disown you.' This is like the Ayat: وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّن يَدْعُو مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَن لاَّ يَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَـمَةِ وَهُمْ عَن دُعَآئِهِمْ غَـفِلُونَ - وَإِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ كَانُواْ لَهُمْ أَعْدَآءً وَكَانُواْ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَـفِرِينَ ( And who is more astray than one who calls on besides Allah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even ) unaware of their calls to them And when mankind are gathered, they ( false deities ) will become their enemies and will deny their worshipping.) ( 46:5-6 ), and وَاتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ءالِهَةً لِّيَكُونُواْ لَهُمْ عِزّاً كَلاَّ سَيَكْفُرُونَ بِعِبَـدَتِهِمْ وَيَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضِدّاً ( And they have taken gods besides Allah, that they might give them honor, power and glory.
Nay, but they will deny their worship of them, and become opponents to them. )
( 19:81-82 ) وَلاَ يُنَبِّئُكَ مِثْلُ خَبِيرٍ ( And none can inform you like Him Who is the All-Knower. ) means, no one can tell you about the consequences of things and how they will end like the One Who is the All-Knower of them.
Qatadah said, "He is referring to Himself, may He be blessed and exalted, for He undoubtedly tells the truth."

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(35:13) He causes the night to phase into the day and the day into the night, *30 and He has subjected the sun and the moon, each running its course to an appointed term. *31 That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs the Kingdom; but those whom you call upon, apart from Allah, possess not so much as the skin of a date-stone. *32

He causes the night to enter the meaning

*30) That is, " The light of the day starts diminishing and the darkness of the night increasing gradually so as to cover up everything completely.
Likewise, towards the end of the night, in the beginning, a streak of the light appears on the horizon, and then the bright day dawns. "

*31) " Subjected .. " : subjected to a law.

*32) The word qitmira in the original means the thin skin that covers the stone of the date-fruit; but what is meant to be said is that the gods of the mushriks do not own anything whatever.
That is why we have translated it " a blade of grass ", which is an insignificant thing.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

( He maketh the night to pass into the day ) such that the night is longer than the day by, for instance, six hours ( and He maketh the day to pass into the night ) such that the day is longer than the night by, let us say, six hours. ( He hath subdued the sun and moon to service ) He subdued the light of the sun and the moon to the service of human beings. ( Each runneth unto an appointed term ) round appointed trajectories. ( Such is Allah, your Lord ) it is Allah, your Lord, Who does so, not the deities; ( His is the Sovereignty ) the storehouses of the universe; ( and those unto whom you pray ) those whom you worship ( instead of Him ) instead of Allah ( own not so much as the white spot on a date stone ) they are unable to own of all that even the white spot on a date stone.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night are added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day are added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is Allah your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmir (the thin membrane over the datestone).
