2:148 For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.

Quran 2:148 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
Every person of every community has his direction wijha his qibla to which he turns muwallīhā ‘he turns to it’ is also read as muwallāhā ‘he is made to turn to it’ in his prayers so vie with one another in good works strive with acts of obedience and acceptance of these. Wherever you may be God will bring you all together gathering you on the Day of Resurrection and requiting you for your deeds; surely God has power over all things.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Every one, individually or in a group, justifying faith as a conviction operative on the character and will, is distinguished by attributes characterizing him or the group with a particular aim or goal. Or with a Kiblah meeting his or their expectations and may or may not be based on spiritual apprehension of divine truths past or present. This must not be the cause inducing you people to contend against each other. The cause for which you should be ready to contend to your lifes end is good will and deeds imprinted with wisdom and piety. One day, wherever you may be, shall Allah bring you all together to His venerable Majestic presence; He is indeed Qadirun over all things
Quran 2:148 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Every Nation has a Qiblah
Al-`Awfi reported that Ibn `Abbas said:
وَلِكُلٍّ وِجْهَةٌ هُوَ مُوَلِّيهَا
( For every nation there is a direction to which they face (in their prayers ))
"This talks about followers of the various religions.
Hence, every nation and tribe has its own Qiblah that they choose, while Allah's appointed Qiblah is what the believers face."
Abul-`Aliyah said, "The Jew has a direction to which he faces ( in the prayer ).
The Christian has a direction to which he faces.
Allah has guided you, O ( Muslim ) Ummah, to a Qiblah which is the true Qiblah." This statement was also related to Mujahid, `Ata' Ad-Dahhak, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, As-Suddi, and others.
This last Ayah is similar to what Allah said:
لِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مِنكُمْ شِرْعَةً وَمِنْهَـجاً وَلَوْ شَآءَ اللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَحِدَةً وَلَـكِن لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِى مَآ ءَاتَـكُم فَاسْتَبِقُوا الخَيْرَاتِ إِلَى الله مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعاً
( To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way.
If Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation, but that (He ) may test you in what He has given you; so compete in good deeds.
The return of you ( all ) is to Allah.) ( 5:48 )
In the Ayah ( 2:148 ), Allah said:
أَيْنَ مَا تَكُونُواْ يَأْتِ بِكُمُ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
( Wheresoever you may be, Allah will bring you together (on the Day of Resurrection ).
Truly, Allah is able to do all things.) meaning: He is able to gather you from the earth even if your bodies and flesh disintegrated and scattered.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(2:148) Everyone has a direction towards which he turns in Prayer: so try to excel one another in good works. *149 Allah will find you wheresoever you be, for nothing is out of Allah's reach.
For each [religious following] is a direction meaning
*149).
There is a subtle gap between this sentence and the next, a gap which the reader can fill with just a little reflection.
The idea conveyed here is that anyone who prays will, after all, have to turn his face in some direction.
But what is of real significance is not the turning of one's face in some specific direction but one's orientation to righteousness for the sake of which one performs the ritual Prayer.
A man's real concern should be moral excellence rather than controversies regarding such formal regulations as the direction of Prayer.
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( And each one hath a goal ) to each adherent of a religion a Qiblah ( towards which he turneth ) he faces according to his own whim; it is also said that this means: to each prophet a Qiblah, which is the Ka’bah, towards which he is ordered to face; ( so vie with one another in good works ) so hasten, O community of Muhammad, to perform acts of obedience more than any other nation. ( Wheresoever you may be ) on land or at sea, ( Allah will bring you all together ) gather you together and reward you for the good works you performed. ( Lo! Allah is Able to do all things ) like gathering you together as well as other things.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
For every nation there is a direction to which they face (in their prayers). So hasten towards all that is good. Wheresoever you may be, Allah will bring you together (on the Day of Resurrection). Truly, Allah is Able to do all things.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
