10:2 Have the people been amazed that We revealed [revelation] to a man from among them, [saying], "Warn mankind and give good tidings to those who believe that they will have a [firm] precedence of honor with their Lord"? [But] the disbelievers say, "Indeed, this is an obvious magician."

Quran 10:2 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

Is it for the people the people of Mecca this interrogative is meant as a disavowal; the preposition li- ‘for’ and its dependent genitive noun al-nās ‘the people’ constitute a circumstantial qualifier of His saying a wonder ‘ajaban read in the accusative as a predicate of kāna; or if read in the nominative ‘ajabun as its subject its predicate which is also its subject if read according to the former accusative reading is the following an awhaynā that We have inspired a man from among them Muhammad (s) saying an ‘that’ is explicative ‘Warn threaten the people the disbelievers with chastisement and give good tidings to those who believe that they have a prior a preceding promise of truth with their Lord’? that is a preceding fair reward in return for the deeds they have sent forward. The disbelievers say ‘Truly this Qur’ān that comprises all of that mentioned is manifest sorcery’ a variant reading for la-sihrun has la-sāhirun ‘a sorcerer’ where it is the Prophet s to whom they are referring as being ‘a manifest sorcerer’.

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

Is it so exceptional in peoples sight to a degree exciting their wonder and astonishment that We inspire one of them with such divine knowledge to warn them and warn all people of the danger of denying Allah, and to announce blissful tidings to those of them who have recognized Him, that Heaven shall set them on their feet secure and esteemed high? Yet the infidels dispute the facts with perspicuous energy, declaring that this, man - Muhammad- is simply a necromancer who stands manifest of sorcery

Quran 10:2 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Which was revealed in Makkah بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful تِلْكَ ءاَيَـتُ الْكِتَـبِ الْحَكِيمِ ( These are the verses of the Book (the Qur'an ) Al-Hakim.) This indicates that these are verses of the Qur'an, in which the wisdom of judgment is clear. The Messenger cannot be but a Human Being Allah rebukes the attitude of the disbelievers with the words أَكَانَ لِلنَّاسِ عَجَبًا ( Is it a wonder for mankind... ) They have always found it strange that Allah would send Messengers to them from among mankind.
Allah also tells us about other people from previous nations who said, أَبَشَرٌ يَهْدُونَنَا ( Shall mere men guide us ) ( 64:6 ) Hud and Salih said to their people: أَوَ عَجِبْتُمْ أَن جَآءَكُمْ ذِكْرٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِّنْكُمْ ( Do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you. ) ( 7:63 ) Allah also told us what the disbelievers from Quraysh said: أَجَعَلَ الاٌّلِهَةَ إِلَـهاً وَحِداً إِنَّ هَـذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ ( Has he made the gods into one God Verily, this is a curious thing! ) ( 38:5 ) Ad-Dahhak reported Ibn `Abbas that he said: "When Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ as a Messenger, most of the Arabs denied him and his message and said: Allah is greater than sending a human Messenger like Muhammad ﷺ.
" Ibn `Abbas said, "So Allah revealed: أَكَانَ لِلنَّاسِ عَجَبًا ( Is it a wonder for mankind... )" Allah's statement; أَنَّ لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ( that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their good deeds ) Scholars have differed over the meaning of the reward for the good deeds in this Ayah: وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِينَ ءامَنُواْ أَنَّ لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ ( and give good news to those who believe that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their good deeds. ) `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah, "Eternal happiness has been written for them." Al-`Awfi reported that Ibn `Abbas said: "It is the good reward for what they have done." Mujahid said: "It is their good deeds -- their prayers, fasting, charity, and glorification." He then said, "And Muhammad will intercede for them." Allah said: قَالَ الْكَـفِرُونَ إِنَّ هَـذَا لَسَـحِرٌ مُّبِينٌ ( (But ) the disbelievers say: "This is indeed an evident sorcerer!") This means that the disbelievers said this although Allah has sent a Messenger from among themselves to them, a man of their own race as a bearer of good news and as a warner.
But they are the liars in saying that.

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(10:2) Does it seem strange to people that We should have revealed to a man from among themselves, directing him to warn the people (who lie engrossed in heedlessness); and to give good news to the believers that they shall enjoy true honour and an exalted status with their Lord? *2 (Is this so strange that) the deniers of the truth should say: 'This man is indeed an evident sorcerer'? *3

Have the people been amazed that We meaning

*2).
The unbelievers are asked why they are astonished that a human being has been designated to warn other human beings.
Would it have been reasonable to designate some angel Jinn or animal rather than a human being to warn other human beings? Similarly, is there anything weird or exotic about the appointment of a Prophet? For if people are found engrossed in error and are oblivious to the truth, what then is truly strange: that their Creator and Lord should make arrangements to guide them or let them continue stumbling in their error? And if Divine Guidance is made available to human beings, does it not stand to reason that it is those who follow, rather than those who reject it, that deserve to be held in honour and esteem? Those who express their astonishment at this should reconsider what it is that truly merits astonishment.

*3).
The unbelievers' allegation that the Prophet ( peace be on him ) is a sorcerer is devoid of even an iota of truth.
The mere fact that a person, by dint of his capacity to express himself effectively, influences people and captivates their hearts and minds does not warrant being called a sorcerer.
What is worth considering is the purpose for which he employs his oratorical skill, and the kind of influence that his oration has on the audience.
Any orator who uses his skill for an evil purpose will naturally be considered a demagogue, an unbridled and irresponsible speaker.
For his only interest lies in casting a spell over his audience, even if he might have to resort to making false and exaggerated statements or saying things that are altogether unjust.

The discourse of such speakers is bereft of all wisdom.
For all it aims to do is to hoodwink and bamboozle the gullible masses.
Such speakers have no coherent set of ideas to offer.
What they say is full of contradiction and incoherence.
Such speakers lack moderation and lean towards extremism.
For their purpose is to prove their capacity to spellbind their audiences by verbal flamboyance or to intoxicate them with inflammatory eloquence in order to pit one group against another.
Such oratory is not conducive to moral improvement, and the lives of the audience are by no means reformed.
Neither does the eloquence of such speakers bring about any healthy change in the outlook of the audience nor in the quality of their lives.
In fact, such eloquence may even have an evil and corrupting influence.
In sharp contrast to all this, the Prophet's oration is characterized by wisdom and coherence, balance and moderation of the highest order, and strict adherence to the truth.
Each word of the Prophet ( peace be on him ) is pregnant with purposiveness and manifests a keen sense of proportion.
In addition, all his oration is directed to just on e purpose - to guide and reform mankind.
In all that he says there is no trace of any concern for worldly interests - personal, familial or national.
He only warns people against the evil consequences of their heedlessness and invites them to something that would lead to their own well-being.
Furthermore, the effect of the Prophet's oration on his audience is radically different from that of sorcerers.
For, all those who accept the Prophet's message undergo a change for the better; their moral conduct improves, and all in all they become oriented to righteousness and benevolence.
It was, therefore, for the Prophet's detractors to consider whether sorcerers achieve such results and whether their professional skills are directed towards such noble purposes.

( Is it a wonder for mankind ) for the people of Mecca ( that We have inspired a man among them ) a human being like them, ( saying: Warn mankind ) warn the people of Mecca by means of the Qur’an ( and bring unto those who believe the good tidings that they have a sure footing ) a good reward; it is also said that their faith in the life of this world is their sure footing with their Lord in the Hereafter; it is also said that this means: they have a true prophet; as it is said that this means: they have a true intercessor ( with their Lord? The disbelievers ) the disbelievers of Mecca ( say: Lo! This ) Qur’an ( is a mere wizard ) a mere lie.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

Is it wonder for mankind that We have sent Our Inspirationto a man from among themselves (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW) (saying): "Warn mankind (of the coming torment in Hell), and give good news to those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and in His Prophet Muhammad SAW) that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their good deeds?" (But) the disbelievers say: "This is indeed an evident sorcerer (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Quran)!
