Quran 31:22 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And whoever surrenders his purpose to God that is whoever takes to obeying Him and is virtuous a believer in His Oneness has certainly grasped the firmest handle the stronger end which is not in danger of being severed and to God belongs the sequel of all matters their ultimate return.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And he who sets a good face upon Allah and sets his heart to serve His purpose with deeds imprinted with wisdom and piety will have grasped firmly at the eternal, the unchangeable and the most secure handhold which never separates nor does it suffer a break. And to Allah, the Ultimate Authority, are committed and submitted all matters and all affairs for consideration, decision and execution here and Hereafter
Quran 31:22 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
( while he is a Muhsin ) i.e., doing what his Lord has commanded and abstaining from what He has forbidden,
( then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. ) means, he has received a firm promise from Allah that He will not punish him.
( And to Allah return all matters for decision.
And whoever disbelieves, let not his disbelief grieve you. ) means, `do not grieve over them, O Muhammad, because they disbelieve in Allah and in the Message you have brought, for their return will be to Allah and He will tell them what they used to do,' i.e., He will punish them for it.
( Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts. ) and nothing whatsoever is hidden from Him.
Then Allah says:
( We let them enjoy for a little while, ) means, in this world,
( then in the end We shall oblige them ) means, `We shall cause them,'
( to (enter ) a great torment.) means, a torment that is terrifying and difficult to bear.
This is like the Ayah,
( "Verily, those who invent a lie against Allah, will never be successful." Enjoyment in this world! and then unto Us will be their return, then We shall make them taste the severest torment because they used to disbelieve. ) ( 10:69-70 )
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(31:22) Whoever surrenders himself to Allah *40 and lives righteously *41 grasps the most firm handle. *42 The ultimate decision of all matters rests with Allah.
And whoever submits his face to Allah meaning
*40) " Whoever........Allah ": Who submits himself wholly to the service of AIIah, entrusts alI his affairs to Him and makes His Guidance the law of his entire life.
*41) That is, practically also he should adopt the attitude of an obedient servant of Allah.
*42) That is, 'He will neither have the apprehension that he will be misguided, nor the fear that he will meet an evil end after having served Allah."

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Whosoever surrendereth his purpose to Allah ) whoever makes his religion and works sincere to Allah ( while doing good ) believes sincerely that there is only one true God, ( he verily hath grasped the firm hand hold ) which will never split up, through " there is no deity except Allah ". ( Unto Allah belongeth the sequel of all things ) the consequence of things, the states in which they die, will return to Him in the Hereafter.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah [i.e. (follows Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism), worships Allah (Alone) with sincere Faith in the (1) Oneness of His Lordship, (2) Oneness of His worship, and (3) Oneness of His Names and Qualities], while he is a Muhsin (good-doer i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah's sake without any show-off or to gain praise or fame etc. and does them in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah's Messenger Muhammad SAW), then he has grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]. And to Allah return all matters for decision.
