Quran 3:32 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

Say to them ‘Obey God and the Messenger’ as regards the belief in the Oneness of God which he enjoins upon you. But if they turn their backs if they object to obedience God loves not the disbelievers meaning that He will chastise them the third person pronominalisation ‘they’ is replaced by the overt noun ‘the disbelievers’.

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

Say to them: Be obedient to Allah and to His Messenger, but if they turn a deaf ear then they must realize that Allah detests the infidels who deny Him

Quran 3:32 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Allah's Love is Attained by Following the Messenger This honorable Ayah judges against those who claim to love Allah, yet do not follow the way of Muhammad .
Such people are not true in their claim until they follow the Shari`ah ( Law ) of Muhammad and his religion in all his statements, actions and conditions.
It is recorded in the Sahih that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
«مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلًا لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرُنَا فَهُوَ رَد»
( Whoever commits an act that does not conform with our matter (religion ), then it will be rejected of him.) This is why Allah said here, قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ ( Say (O Muhammad to mankind ): "If you ( really ) love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you...") meaning, what you will earn is much more than what you sought in loving Him, for Allah will love you.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri and several scholars among the Salaf commented, "Some people claimed that they love Allah.
So Allah tested them with this Ayah; قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ ( Say (O Muhammad to mankind ): "If you ( really ) love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you...").
" Allah then said, وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ( "And forgive you your sins.
And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." )
meaning, by your following the Messenger , you will earn all this with the blessing of his mission.
Allah next commands everyone, قُلْ أَطِيعُواْ اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ ( Say: "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But if they turn away ) by defying the Prophet) فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْكَـفِرِينَ ( then Allah does not like the disbelievers. ) thus, testifying that defiance of the Messenger's way constitutes Kufr.
Indeed, Allah does not like whoever does this, even if he claims that he loves Allah and seeks a means of approach to Him, unless, and until, he follows the unlettered Prophet, the Final Messenger from Allah to the two creations: mankind and the Jinn.
This is the Prophet who, if the previous Prophets and mighty Messengers were to have been alive during his time, they would have no choice but to follow, obey him, and to abide by his Law.
We will mention this fact when we explain the Ayah, وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَـقَ النَّبِيِّيْنَ ( And (remember ) when Allah took the Covenant of the Prophets) 3:81, Allah willing.

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(3:32) Say: 'Obey Allah and obey the Messenger.' If they turn away from this then know that Allah does not love those who refuse to obey Him and His Messenger. *28

Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger." But meaning

*28).
This marks the conclusion of the first discourse.
Reflection upon its contents, particularly the reference to the Battle of Badr, leads one to the conclusion that this section was probably revealed between the battles of Badr and Uhud, i.e.
sometime in 3.A.H.
The tradition mentioned by Muhammad b.
Ishaq has led to the common misunderstanding that the first eighty verses of this surah were revealed on the occasion of the arrival of the deputation from Najran in 9 A.H.
( See Ibn Hisham.
Sirah, vol.
1, pp.
573 ff., especially p.
576; Ibn Ishaq, Life of Muhammad, tr.
A.
Guillaume, second impression, London, Oxford, 1968.
pp.
270 ff..
especially p.
272 - Ed. )
This is not true.
In the first place, the introductory section indicates that the surah was revealed much earlier.
Second, the Tradition narrated by Muqatil b.
Sulayman states explicitly that on the occasion of the arrival of the deputation from Najran only those verses which concern the Prophets John ( Yahya ) and Jesus ( 'Isa ) ( peace be on them ) were revealed, and the number of those verses is about thirty.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

Consequently, Allah revealed about their comments: ( Say: Obey Allah ) regarding what He has obligated ( and the Messenger ) in his practices. ( But if they turn away ) from obeying them, ( Lo! Allah loveth not the disbelievers ) the Jews and the hypocrites.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Obey Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW)." But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers.
