Quran 6:32 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
The life of this world that is preoccupation with it is nothing but a game and a diversion while obedience and what is conducive to it are of the things of the Hereafter; surely the abode of the Hereafter wa-la’l-dāru is also read wa-la-dāru’l-ākhirati namely Paradise is better for those who fear idolatry. What do they not understand? this and so believe? read a-fa-lā ya‘qilūna ‘do they not understand’ or a-fa-lā ta‘qilūna ‘do you not understand?’.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
Indeed life here is but an illusive and rapid change of feeling, fancy and thought and an amusement bringing happiness to those who cannot think, whereas, the abode in heavens realm Hereafter is far better and indeed blissful but for those who entertain the profound reverence dutiful to Allah; can you people not reflect
Quran 6:32 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Allah describes the regret of the disbelievers when facing Him, and their disappointment at the commencement, along with theirsorrow for not performing good deeds and for their evil deeds
This is why Allah said,
( until all of a sudden, the Hour (signs of death ) is upon them, and they say: "Alas for us that we gave no thought to it.") `It' here refers to either the life of this world, or the affairs of the Hereafter.
Allah's statement,
( while they will bear their burdens on their backs; and evil indeed are the burdens that they will bear! ) Asbat said that As-Suddi said, "Upon entering his grave, every unjust person will meet a man with an ugly face, dark skin, awful odor, wearing dirty clothes, who will enter his grave with him.
When the unjust person sees him, he will say, `How ugly is your face!' He will reply, `So was your work, it was ugly.' The unjust person will say, `How foul is the odor coming from you!' He will reply, `Such was the case with your work, it stunk.' The unjust person will say, `How dirty are your clothes!' He will reply, `And your work too was dirty.' The unjust person will ask, `Who are you' He will reply, `I am your deeds.' So he will remain with the unjust person in his grave, and when he is resurrected on the Day of Resurrection, his companion will say to him, `In the life of the world, I used to carry you because you followed desire and lust.
Today, you carry me.' So he will ride on the unjust person's back and lead him until he enters the Fire.
So Allah said,
( while they will bear their burdens on their backs; and evil indeed are the burdens that they will bear! ) 6:31" Allah's statement,
( And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. ) means, most of it is play and amusement,
( But far better is the abode of the Hereafter for those who have Taqwa.
Will you not then understand )
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(6:32) The life of this world is nothing but a sport and a pastime, *20 and the life of the Hereafter is far better for those who seek to ward off their ruin. Will you not, then, understand?
And the worldly life is not but meaning
*20).
This does not mean that earthly life has nothing serious about it and that it has been brought into being merely as a sport and pastime.
What this observation means is that, compared with the true and abiding life of the Hereafter, earthly life seems, as it were, a sport, a transient pastime with which to amuse oneself before turning to serious business.
Earthly life has been likened to a sport and pastime for another reason as well.
Since Ultimate Reality is hidden in this world, the superficially minded ones who lack true perception encounter many a thing which causes them to fall a prey to misconceptions.
As a result of these misconceptions such persons indulge in a variety of actions which are so blatantly opposed to reality that their life seems to consist merely of sport and pastime.
One who assumes the position of a king in this world, for instance, is no different from the person who plays the part of a king on the stage of a theatre.
His head is bedecked with a crown and he goes about commanding people as if he were a king, even though he has no royal authority.
He may later, if the director of the theatre wishes, be either dismissed from his royal office, put into prison or even be sentenced to death Plays of this kind go on all over the world.
Saints and man-made deities are deemend to respond to human supplications even though they do not have a shred of authority to do so.
Again, some people try to unravel the Unseen even though to do so lies altogether beyond their reach.
There are those who claim to provide sustenance to others despite the fact that they are themselves dependent on others for their own sustenance.
There are still others who think that they have the power either to bestow honour and dignity on human beings or to degrade them, either to confer benefits or to harm them.
Such people go about trumpeting their own glory but their own foreheads bear the stamp of their humble bondage to their Creator.
By just one twist of fortune such people may fall of their pededstrals and be trampled under the feet of those upon whom they have been imposing their God-like authority.
All these people come to a sudeen end with death. As soon as man crosses the boundaries of this world and steps into the Next, the reality will be fully manifest, all the misconceptions that he has entertained will be peeled away, and he will be shown the true worth of his belief and actions.
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Naught is the life of the world ) the comfort and enjoyment of the life of the world is nothing ( save a pastime ) amusement ( and a sport ) worthless activity. ( Better far is the abode of the Hereafter ) i.e. Paradise ( for those who keep their duty (to Allah )) for those who ward off disbelief, idolatry and indecencies. ( Have ye then no sense? ) Do you not comprehend that this world is evanescent and that the Hereafter is everlasting?
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. But far better is the house in the Hereafter for those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V. 2:2). Will you not then understand?
