Quran 7:48 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn

And those of the Heights call to men from among the inhabitants of the Fire whom they know by their mark saying ‘Your masses of property or your multitude and your haughtiness that is your disdaining of belief have not availed you as protection against the Fire. And they also say to them pointing to those formerly oppressed Muslims

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

Then those on the heights shall address those whom they recognize by the language spoken by there countenances: Do you now realize that all that you had amassed of wealth and all the multitudinous you associated with did not avail you a useful purpose nor did your inordinate self-esteem

Quran 7:48 Tafsir Ibn Kathir

مَآ أَغْنَى عَنكُمْ جَمْعُكُمْ ( "Of what benefit to you was your gathering..." ) meaning, your great numbers, وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ( "...and your arrogance" ) This Ayah means, your great numbers and wealth did not save you from Allah's torment.
Rather, you are dwelling in His torment and punishment.
`Ali bin Abi Talhah reported from Ibn `Abbas, أَهَـؤُلاءِ الَّذِينَ أَقْسَمْتُمْ لاَ يَنَالُهُمُ اللَّهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ ( Are they those, of whom you swore that Allah would never show them mercy ) refers to the people of Al-A`raf who will be told when Allah decrees: ادْخُلُواْ الْجَنَّةَ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلاَ أَنتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ ( (Behold! It has been said to them ): "Enter Paradise, no fear shall be on you, nor shall you grieve.")

Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

( And the dwellers on the Heights call unto men ) among the disbelievers ( whom they know ) that is before they entered hell ( by their marks ) by their darkened faces and blue eyes, ( (saying )) O Walid Ibn al-Mughirah! O Abu Jahl Ibn Hisham! O Umayyah Ibn Khalaf! O Ubayy Ibn Khalaf al-Jumahi! O Aswad Ibn ’Abd al-Muttalib! O leaders! ( What did your multitude ) of wealth and servants ( and that in which ye took your pride ) which made you scorn belief in Muhammad ( pbuh ) and the Qur’an ( avail you? )

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

And the men on Al-A'raf (the wall) will call unto the men whom they would recognise by their marks, saying: "Of what benefit to you were your great numbers (and hoards of wealth), and your arrogance against Faith?"
