Quran 17:75 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
Then had you inclined We would have surely made you taste a double chastisement in life and a double chastisement upon death in other words twice the chastisement that any other person would receive in this world and the Hereafter. Then you would not have found for yourself any helper against Us anyone to shield you from it.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
But then, by consequence, We would have made you taste a double punishment in life and at death, besides the second death, and no protector would be found to render void Our decree
Quran 17:75 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
How the Prophet would have been punished if He had given in at all to the Disbelievers' Demands that He change some of the Revelation
Allah tells us how He supported His Prophet and protected him and kept him safe from the evil plots of the wicked transgressors.
Allah is the One Who took care of him and helped him, and would not leave him to any of His creation.
He is the One Who is His Helper, Supporter and Protector, the One Who is to help him achieve victory and make His religion prevail over those who resist him and oppose him and fight him in the east and in the west.
May Allah send peace and blessings upon him until the Day of Judgement.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(17:75) But if you had done so, We would have made you taste double chastisement in this world as well as in the Hereafter: then you would have found no helper against Us. *88
Then [if you had], We would have meaning
*88) This review implies two things: ( 1 ) " If you had compromised with falsehood after recognizing the Truth, you might have pleased your degenerate people but would have incurred the wrath of Allah and would have received double chastisement both in this world and in the Hereafter. " ( 2 ) " No man, not even a Messenger of Allah, can fight single-handed against the deceitful methods of falsehood, unless he receives the succour of Allah. " It was the fortitude which Allah had bestowed upon the Holy Prophet, which helped him to retrain steadfast on the right position he had taken, so that no persecution, howsoever great, could turn him away in the least from that position.
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Then ) if you had granted to them what they requested ( had We made thee taste a double (punishment ) of living) the chastisement of this worldly life ( and a double (punishment ) of dying) the chastisement of the Hereafter, ( then hadst thou found no helper against Us ) you would not find anyone to save you from Us.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
In that case, We would have made you taste a double portion (of punishment) in this life and a double portion (of punishment) after death. And then you would have found none to help you against Us.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
