Surah Hijr ayat 78 Tafsir Quran 15:78

﴿وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَالِمِينَ﴾
[ الحجر: 78]

15:78 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.

And certainly in has been softened in other words understand it as being innahu the dwellers in the wood a huddle of trees near Midian — these were the people of the prophet Shu‘ayb — were evildoers for denying Shu‘ayb.

Thus much did the woodlanders Madyanites wrong themselves and were wrongful of actions

The Destruction of the Dwellers of Al-Aykah, the People of Shu`ayb The Dwellers of Al-Aykah, were the people of Shu`ayb.
Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah and others said that Al-Aykah refers to intertwined trees.
Their evildoing included associating partners with Allah ( Shirk ), banditry and cheating in weights and measures.
Allah punished them with the Sayhah ( the awful cry or torment ), the earthquake, and the torment of the Day of Shadow.
They lived near the people of Lut, but at a later time, and the people of Lut were known to them, which is why Allah says, وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ ( They are both on an open route, plain to see. ) Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak and others said, "a visible route." This is why, when Shu`ayb warned his people, he said to them, وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِّنكُم بِبَعِيدٍ ( And the people of Lut are not far off from you! ) 11:89

(15:78) As the people of Al Aikah *43 were unjust,

And the companions of the thicket were meaning

*43) The people of Al-Aikah were the canmunity of Prophet Shu`aib and were called Midianites after the name of their capital city and their territory.
As regards AI-Aikah, it was the ancient name of Tabuk and literally means a " thick forest " .

( And the dwellers in the wood ) i.e. the people of Shu’ayb ( indeed were evil-doers ) idolaters.

And the dwellers in the wood [i.e. the people of Madyan (Midian) to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent by Allah), were also Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.).
