Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They (21:43)

﴿أَمْ لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَا ۚ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ﴾
[ الأنبياء: 43]

21:43 Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? They are unable [even] to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.

Do they have gods that will protect them from My punishment? They are not capable of helping even themselves by removing any harm or acquiring any benefit! Whoever cannot help himself, how can he help others? Nor will they be protected from My punishment.

Or have they aliha (gods) who can guard them from Us? They have no power to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us (i.e. from Our Torment).

Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum min doonina la yastateeAAoona nasra anfusihim wala hum minna yushaboona

Or have they gods that can guard them from Us? They have no power to aid themselves, nor can they be defended from Us.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

Or have they gods who can guard them from Us They have no power to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.
