﴿بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً﴾
[ المدثر: 52]
74:52 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishInstead, each one of these idolaters wants for there to be an open book by his head side that tells him that Muhammad is a messenger from Allah.
The reason for this is not the lack of proof or weakness of evidence.
It is only obstinacy and pride.

Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad SAW has come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.).

Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!

At another place in the Qur'an, this saying of the disbelievers of Makkah has been cited: "We will not believe in it unless we are given the like of what has been given to the Messengers of Allah." (Al-An`am: 124). At still another place their this demand has been cited: "Or you ascend the sky ... and bring down to us a writing that we may read." (Bani lsra'il: 93).
