Quran 10:12 Surah Yunus ayat 12 Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
10:12 And when affliction touches man, he calls upon Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove from him his affliction, he continues [in disobedience] as if he had never called upon Us to [remove] an affliction that touched him. Thus is made pleasing to the transgressors that which they have been doing

Quran 10:12 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
If misfortune illness or poverty should befall a disbelieving man he calls upon Us on his side that is lying down or sitting or standing in other words in every state; but when We have relieved him of his misfortune he passes on in his unbelief as if ka-an is softened its subject omitted in other words read as ka-annahu he had never called upon Us because of a misfortune that befell him. So in the same way that supplication during misfortune and abstention from supplication in times of comfort were adorned for him is adorned for the prodigal the idolaters that which they do.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
When man is touched or befallen with a misfortune or wedded to a calamity, he invokes us for relief, reclining on his side or sitting or standing, and when We deliver him from what was burdensome and exhaustive to the mind, he passes heedless of Allah as if he never invoked Him to relieve him from a misfortune that had befallen him. Thus are the extravagant in their accounts of themselves allured by false hopes springing eternal in their bosoms
Quran 10:12 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Man remembers Allah at Times of Adversity and forgets Him at Times of Prosperity
Allah tells us about man and how he becomes annoyed and worried when he is touched with distress.
( but when evil touches him, then he has recourse to long supplications. )41:51 `Long supplications' also means many supplications.
When man suffers adversity he becomes worried and anxious.
So he supplicates more.
He prays to Allah to lift and remove the adversity.
He prays while standing, sitting or laying down.
When Allah removes his adversity and lifts his distress, he turns away and becomes arrogant.
He goes on as if nothing were wrong with him before.
( He passes on as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! ) Allah then criticized and condemned those who have these qualities or act this way, so He said:
( Thus it is made fair seeming to the wasteful that which they used to do. ) But those on whom Allah has bestowed good guidance and support are an exception.
( Except those who have patience believe and do righteous good deeds. ) 11:11 The Prophet said:
( How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything and this is not the case with anyone except a believer.
If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah, and that is good for him.
And if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is also good for him. )

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( And if misfortune touch a man ) when hardship or sickness befalls the disbeliever, the reference here is to Hisham Ibn al-Mughirah and al-Makhzumi ( he cries unto Us, (while reclining ) on his side, or sitting or standing, but when We have relieved him of the misfortune) when We relieved him of the hardship and misfortune which befell him ( he goeth his way ) he carries on his abstention from making supplication to Us ( as though he had not cried unto Us because of a misfortune ) a hardship ( that afflicted him. Thus is what they do ) in their state of idolatry of making supplications in times of hardship and abstaining from so making supplication to Allah in times of ease ( made (seeming ) fair unto the prodigal) unto the idolaters.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it seems fair to the Musrifunthat which they used to do.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
