Quran 16:20 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And those whom you invoke tad‘ūna or read yad‘una ‘they invoke’ besides God namely the idols do not create anything but are themselves created fashioned from stones and other materials.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And those whom they invoke besides Him are incapable of creating an entity of any kind. On the contrary, they themselves have been created
Quran 16:20 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
And Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal ( 19 )Those whom they invoke besides Allah have not created anything, but are themselves created ( 20 )( They are ) dead, not alive; and they do not know when they will be resurrected ( 21 )
Allah tells us that He knows what is hidden in people's hearts as well as what is apparent.
He will reward or punish everyone for their deeds on the Day of Resurrection.
If their deeds are good then they will be rewarded, and if their deeds are evil, then they will be punished.
The gods of the Idolators are Created, they do not create
Then Allah tells us that the idols which people call on instead of Him cannot create anything, they are themselves created, as Al-Khalil ( Ibrahim ) said:
أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ - وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
( "Do you worship that which you (yourselves ) carve? While Allah has created you and what you make!")( 37:95-96 )
أَمْوَاتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَاءٍ
( (They are ) dead, not alive) means, they are inanimate and lifeless, they do not hear, see, or think.
وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ
( and they know not when they will be resurrected. ) meaning, they do not know when the Hour will come, so how can anyone hope for any benefit or reward from these idols They should hope for it from the One Who knows all things and is the Creator of all things.
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi
And Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal ( 19 )Those whom they invoke besides Allah have not created anything, but are themselves created ( 20 )( They are ) dead, not alive; and they do not know when they will be resurrected ( 21 )

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Those unto whom they cry ) they worship ( beside Allah created naught ) they cannot create anything like Our creation, ( but are themselves created ) they are themselves carved.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
Those whom they (Al-Mushrikun) invoke besides Allah have not created anything, but are themselves created.

Ayats from Quran in English
- Whoever Allah guides - he is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He sends astray -
- And they say, "When we are bones and crumbled particles, will we [truly] be resurrected
- And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them."
- Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
- Indeed, We have sent you with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and
- And when it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah has revealed," they say,
- You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers
- And the king said, "Bring him to me." But when the messenger came to him,
- No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin
- But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.
