Surah Ankabut ayat 29 Tafsir Quran 29:29

﴿أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ السَّبِيلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِي نَادِيكُمُ الْمُنكَرَ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ﴾
[ العنكبوت: 29]

29:29 Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings [every] evil." And the answer of his people was not but they said, "Bring us the punishment of Allah, if you should be of the truthful."

What! Do you come unto men and cut off the way the travel roads of passers-by committing lewd acts with whoever passes your way such that people ceased to pass by where you live and you discuss in your gatherings in your conversations indecency?’ you discuss committing lewd acts with one another. But the only answer of his people was that they said ‘Bring us the chastisement of God if you are truthful’ in your deeming such acts vile and that chastisement will befall those who do such things.

You certainly have sensuous desire for men, he added, with whom you practice Sodomy and you commit highway robberies and you force people to immorality and in your society you commit abomination. And what was the response of his people. but to say: we defy you to precipitate Allahs retributive punishment if indeed you are declaring the truth

The preaching of Lut and what happened between Him and His People Allah tells us that His Prophet Lut, peace be upon him, denounced his people for their evil deed and their immoral actions in having intercourse with males, a deed which none of the sons of Adam had ever committed before them.
As well as doing this, they also disbelieved in Allah and rejected and opposed His Messenger, they robbed wayfarers, they would lie in wait on the road, kill people and loot their possessions. وَتَأْتُونَ فِى نَادِيكُمُ الْمُنْكَرَ ( And practice Al-Munkar in your meetings. ) This means, `in your gatherings you do and say things that are not befitting, and you do not denounce one another for doing such things.' Some said that they used to have intercourse with one another in public; this was the view of Mujahid.
Some said that they used to compete in passing gas and laughing.
This was the view of `A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, and Al-Qasim.
Some of them said that they used to make rams fight one another, or organize cockfights.
They used to do all of these things, and they were even eviler than that. فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلاَّ أَن قَالُواْ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّـدِقِينَ ( But his people gave no answer except that they said: "Bring Allah's torment upon us if you are one of the truthful." ) This is indicative of their disbelief, scornful attitude and stubbornness.
So Allah's Prophet asked for help against them, and said: رَبِّ انصُرْنِى عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ ( My Lord! Give me victory over the people who are corrupt. )

(29:29) What! Do you go to men *51 (to satisfy your lust), engage in highway robbery, and commit evil deeds in your gatherings?' *52 Then they had no answer to offer other than to say: 'Bring Allah's chastisement upon us if you are truthful.'

Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the meaning

*51) That is, " You satisfy your sex desire with the males. " As stated in AIA'raf: 81: " you gratify your lust with men instead of women. "
*52) That is, " You do not even hide yourself when you commit this filthy act, but commit it openly in your assemblies, in front of others. " The same has been stated in Surah An-Naml: 54, thus: " Do you commit the indecency while you see it? "

( For come ye not in unto males ) do you not have sexual intercourse with men, ( and cut ye not the road (for travellers )) and it is also said that this means: you cut off the continuation of progeny by your abominable act, ( and commit ye not abomination in your meetings ) they used to indulge in ten different kinds of indecency? ( But the answer of his folk ) the folk of Lot ( was only that they said: Bring Allah’s doom upon us if thou art a truth-teller ) if you are true that we will be punished unless we accept faith!

"Verily, you do sodomy with men, and rob the wayfarer (travellers, etc.)! And practise Al-Munkar (disbelief and polytheism and every kind of evil wicked deed) in your meetings." But his people gave no answer except, that they said: "Bring Allah's Torment upon us if you are one of the truthful."
