﴿وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِي نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ﴾
[ الرعد: 40]
13:40 And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.

And whether read as immā the nūn of the conditional particle in ‘whether’ has been assimiliated with the extra mā We show you a part of that which We promise them of chastisement during your lifetime the response of the conditional statement has been omitted in other words understand it as being fa-dhāk ‘then so shall it be’; or We take you to Us before chastising them; it is for you only to convey the Message your duty is only to deliver the Message and it is for Us to do the reckoning when they finally come to Us whereupon We shall requite them.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And We either show you O Muhammad in your life time some part of the retributive punishment We promised them or occasion your death before. You are only responsible for relating the divine message and We are responsible for their trial in Day of judgement
Quran 13:40 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Punishment is by Allah, and the Messenger's Job is only to convey the Message
Allah said to His Messenger ,
وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ
`( Whether We show you ) O Muhammad, part of the disgrace and humiliation We have promised your enemies in this life,
أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ
( or cause you to die ) before that,
فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَـغُ
(your duty is only to convey We have only sent you to convey to them Allah's Message, and by doing so, you will have fulfilled the mission that was ordained on you,
وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ
( and on Us is the reckoning ), their reckoning and recompense is on Us.' Allah said in similar Ayat,
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ - لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُسَيْطِرٍ - إِلاَّ مَن تَوَلَّى وَكَفَرَ - فَيْعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الاٌّكْبَرَ - إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ - ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ
( So remind them - you are only one who reminds.
You are not a dictator over them - Save the one who turns away and disbelieves.
Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.
Verily, to Us will be their return, Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. )88:21-26 Allah said next,
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْاْ أَنَّا نَأْتِى الاٌّرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا
( See they not that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying borders. ) Ibn `Abbas commented, "See they not that We are granting land after land to Muhammad ﷺ" Al-Hasan and Ad-Dahhak commented that this Ayah refers to Muslims gaining the upper hand over idolators, just as Allah said in another Ayah,
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُمْ مِّنَ الْقُرَى
( And indeed We have destroyed towns round about you. ) 46:27
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(13:40) And O Prophet! Rest assured that We will carry out the threat We are holding out to them whether a part of it should happen during your lifetime or We should cause you to die before its fulfilment. Anyhow your duty is only to convey the Message and it is for Us to do the reckoning. *59
And whether We show you part of meaning
*59) This is to console the Holy Prophet, as if to say, " O Prophet, you need not concern yourself as to the end of these disbelievers who have rejected the Truth.
You should go on performing with peace of mind the Mission that has been entrusted to you and leave it to Us to give them suitable punishment.
" Though this has been addressed to the Holy Prophet, it is obvious that it is really meant to warn the opponents of the Truth, who were demanding definitely from the Holy Prophet by way of a challenge to bring about the scourge about which threats were being held out to them.
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi
Punishment is by Allah, and the Messenger's Job is only to convey the Message
Allah said to His Messenger ,
وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ
`( Whether We show you ) O Muhammad, part of the disgrace and humiliation We have promised your enemies in this life,
أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ
( or cause you to die ) before that,
فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَـغُ
(your duty is only to convey We have only sent you to convey to them Allah's Message, and by doing so, you will have fulfilled the mission that was ordained on you,
وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them ) of torment during your lifetime, ( or make thee die (before its happening ), thine is but conveyance ( of the message )) on behalf of Allah, ( Ours the reckoning ) reward and punishment.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
Whether We show you (O Muhammad SAW) part of what We have promised them or cause you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning.
