42:45 And you will see them being exposed to the Fire, humbled from humiliation, looking from [behind] a covert glance. And those who had believed will say, "Indeed, the [true] losers are the ones who lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, the wrongdoers are in an enduring punishment."

Quran 42:45 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And you will see them being exposed to it namely the Fire submissive fearful and humbled by abasement looking at it with a furtive glance a slight look stealthily min of min tarfin khafiyyin ‘with a furtive glance’ is to indicate inceptiveness or it functions with the sense of a bā’ ‘with’ sc. bi-tarfin khafiyyin. And those who believe will say ‘Verily the true losers are those who have lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection for being condemned to abide forever in the Fire and for not being able to attain the blissful company of the houris prepared for them in Paradise had they been believers the relative clause alladhīna khasirū... ‘those who have lost …’ constitutes the predicate of the particle inna ‘verily’. Truly the wrongdoers the disbelievers will be in lasting everlasting chastisement — these words constitute God’s speech exalted be He.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And you shall see them exposed thereto -the Fire- and back they recoil with abhorrence from it, mortified with fear and humiliation, glancing with stealthy eyes and catching a glimpse of it. And there shall say those whose hearts reflect the image of religious and spiritual virtues: losers indeed are those who lost themselves in vanity, and their crimes lost them mercy and lost them their families on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed the wrongful of actions have brought on themselves eternal suffering
Quran 42:45 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The State of the Wrongdoers on the Day of Resurrection
Allah tells us that whatever He wills happens and whatever He does not will does not happen, and no one can make it happen.
Whomever He guides, none can lead astray, and whomever He leads astray, none can guide, as He says:
وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُ وَلِيًّا مُّرْشِدًا
( but he whom He sends astray, for him you will find no protecting to lead him. ) ( 18:17 ).
Then Allah tells us about the wrongdoers, i.e., the idolators who associate others in worship with Allah:
لَمَّا رَأَوُاْ اْلَعَذَابَ
( when they behold the torment, ) i.e., on the Day of Resurrection, they will wish that they could go back to this world.
( they will say: "Is there any way of return" ) This is like the Ayah:
( If you could but see when they will be held over the (Hell ) Fire! They will say: "Would that we were but sent back! Then we would not deny the Ayat of our Lord, and we would be of the believers!" Nay, it has become manifest to them what they had been concealing before.
But if they were returned, they would certainly revert to that which they were forbidden.
And indeed they are liars.) ( 6:27-28 )
( And you will see them brought forward to it ) means, to the Fire.
( made humble by disgrace, ) means, in a befitting manner, because of their previous disobedience towards Allah.
( (and ) looking with stealthy glance.) Mujahid said, "In a humiliated manner." That is, they will steal glances at it, because they will be afraid of it.
But the thing that they are afraid of will undoubtedly happen, and worse than that -- may Allah save us from that.
( And those who believe will say ) means, on the Day of Resurrection they will say:
إِنَّ الْخَـسِرِينَ
( Verily, the losers... ) means, the greatest losers.
( are they who lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection.
) means, they will be taken to the Fire and deprived of any pleasures in the Hereafter.
They will lose themselves, and they will be separated from their loved ones, companions, families and relatives, and they will lose them.
( Verily, the wrongdoers will be in a lasting torment. ) means, everlasting and eternal, with no way out and no escape.
( And they will have no protectors to help them other than Allah. ) means, no one to save them from the punishment and torment which they are suffering.
( And he whom Allah sends astray, for him there is no way. ) means, no salvation.
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(42:45) You shall see them, as they are brought face to face with the chastisement, in a state of abject humiliation, looking with a furtive glance. *71 But the believers will say: 'Surely the true losers are they who lose themselves and their kindred on the Day of Resurrection.' Lo, the wrong-doers will be in an enduring torment.
And you will see them being exposed meaning
*71) By nature man is such that when a dreadful scene comes before him and he knows that soon he is going to fall a prey to it, he closes his eyes forthwith in fear.
Then, when he cannot hold himself any longer, he tries to see what kind of the calamity it is and how far away it is from him.
But he does not find the courage to lift up his head and have a full view of it.
Therefore, he opens his eyes a little again and again and sees it from the corner of the eye, and then again closes his eyes from fear.
The same state of those who will be driven to Hell has been depicted here.
