Surah Hijr ayat 58 Tafsir Quran 15:58

﴿قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ﴾
[ الحجر: 58]

15:58 They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

They said ‘We have been sent to a sinning folk a disbelieving folk namely the people of Lot in order to destroy them;

We have been sent, the Messengers said, to a sinful people who grow daily more and more wicked

The Reason why the Angels came Allah tells us that after Ibrahim had calmed down from the excitement of this good news, he started to ask them why they had come to him.
They said, إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَى قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ ( We have been sent to a guilty people. ) meaning the people of Lut.
They told him that they were going to save the family of Lut from among those people, except for his wife, because she was one of those who were doomed.
Thus it was said, إِلاَّ امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَآ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَـبِرِينَ ( Except for his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind. ) i.e., she was one of those who would be left behind and will be destroyed.

(15:58) They said, "We have been sent to (punish) a criminal people *34

They said, "Indeed, we have been sent meaning

*34) The fact that the angels did not name the people of Lot but merely referred to them as " the wicked people ", shows that these people had become so notorious for their wicked deeds that there was no need to mention them by name before Prophet Abraham, who was well acquainted with the moral condition of all the people around him.

( They said: We have been sent unto a guilty folk ) to idolaters who brought destruction upon themselves because of their evil acts, meaning here the people of Lot.

They (the angels) said: "We have been sent to a people who are Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners).
