Quran 16:70 Surah Nahl ayat 70 Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
16:70 And Allah created you; then He will take you in death. And among you is he who is reversed to the most decrepit [old] age so that he will not know, after [having had] knowledge, a thing. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Competent.

Quran 16:70 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And God has created you when you were nothing then He takes you in death when your terms of life are concluded; and there are some among you who are relegated to the most abject stage of life that is the most diminished because of old-age and senility so that he knows nothing after having possessed some knowledge. ‘Ikrima said ‘Whoever recites the Qur’ān will not come to such a predicament’. God is Knowing of how to manage the affairs of His creation Powerful in doing what He will.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And Allah is He Who brought you people into being and caused you to exist. Then He disembodies your souls and deprives you of animate existence, and among you is he who is carried through the stealing steps of age to advanced life that he loses the wits once about him and he loses remembrance of the knowledge he formerly mastered and he becomes the abject heir of an illustrious name
Quran 16:70 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
In Man there is a Lesson
Allah tells us that He is controlling the affairs of His servants.
He is the One Who created them out of nothing, then He will cause them to die.
But there are some of them that He allows to grow old, which is a physical weakness, as Allah says:
اللَّهُ الَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ مِّن ضَعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِن بَعْدِ ضَعْفٍ قُوَّةٍ
( Allah is He Who created you in (a state of ) weakness, then gave you strength after weakness, then after strength gave ( you ) weakness) ( 30:54 )
لِكَىْ لاَ يَعْلَمَ بَعْدَ عِلْمٍ شَيْئًا
( so that they know nothing after having known. ) meaning, after he knew things, he will reach a stage where he knows nothing because of weakness of mind due to old age and senility.
Thus Al-Bukhari, when commenting on this Ayah, reported a narration from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray:
«أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْهَرَمِ، وَأَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَفِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ وَفِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَات»
( I seek refuge with You from miserliness, laziness, old age, senility, the punishment of the grave, the Fitnah of the Dajjal and the trials of life and death. ) Zuhayr bin Abi Sulma said, in his famous Mu`allaqah: "I became exhausted from the responsibilities of life.
Whoever lives for eighty years, no wonder he is tired.
I saw death hitting people like a crazed camel, and whoever it hit dies, but whoever is not hit lives until he grows old."
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(16:70) And consider this: Allah created you: then He causes your death; *60 and some one from among you is carried on to abject old age so that after knowing all he could, he may no longer have any knowledge of it. *61 The fact is that Allah alone is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.
And Allah created you; then He will meaning
*60) It is to emphasize this: Allah not only provides you with the necessities and good things of life ( as stated in the preceding verses ), but also has full power over your life and death.
None else has any power to give lift or cause death.
*61) This fact has been mentioned to bring home to the disbelievers and the mushriks that knowledge, which gives superiority to man over all creatures on this Earth, has been given by Allah, as if to say, " You yourselves have seen that when a man, who once possessed much knowledge, becomes very old, he is reduced to a mere lump of flesh.
Then that man who once taught knowledge to others loses all his senses and cannot look even after his own self ".
Tafsir Maarif-ul-Quran Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( And Allah createth you, then causeth you to die ) He takes away your souls when your lifespan expires, ( and among you is he who is brought back to the most abject stage of life, so that he knoweth ) he understands ( nothing after (having had ) knowledge) before this state. ( Lo! Allah is Knower ) of the transformation of his creation, ( Powerful ) to turn them from one state to another.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And Allah has created you and then He will cause you to die, and of you there are some who are sent back to senility, so that they know nothing after having known (much). Truly! Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.

Ayats from Quran in English
- You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be
- Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.
- They say, "Be Jews or Christians [so] you will be guided." Say, "Rather, [we follow]
- You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and associate with Him that of which I
- Until the Day of the time well-known."
- They will say while they dispute therein,
- Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion,
- So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
- Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].
- The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it]
