And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them (6:10)

﴿وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ﴾
[ الأنعام: 10]

6:10 And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.

If these people poke fun at you by asking for an angel to be sent down with you, then communities in the past also poked fun at their messengers.
Then the punishment, which they used to deny and mock when they were warned about it, surrounded them.

And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked before you, but their scoffers were surrounded by the very thing that they used to mock at.

Walaqadi istuhzia birusulin min qablika fahaqa biallatheena sakhiroo minhum ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

Mocked were (many) messengers before thee; but their scoffers were hemmed in by the thing that they mocked.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

And indeed Messengers were mocked before you, but their scoffers were surrounded by the very thing that they used to mock at.
