surah Anam aya 54 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
6:54 And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful."
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishWhen those who accept My signs that indicate the truth of what you have brought come to you, O Messenger, then reply to their greeting of peace in honour of them and tell them the good news of My mercy.
I have gracefully made mercy obligatory on Myself.
If anyone among you commits sin, out of ignorance and foolishness, and then repents from that sin and sets their actions right, then I will forgive them, for I am Forgiving and Compassionate to the servant who repents to Me.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
When those who believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) come to you, say: "Salamun 'Alaikum" (peace be on you); your Lord has written Mercy for Himself, so that, if any of you does evil in ignorance, and thereafter repents and does righteous good deeds (by obeying Allah), then surely, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

And when those who opened their hearts’ ears and their minds’ eyes to Our revelations and signs come to you O Muhammad, address them with the expression of good will and courtesy peace be upon you and proclaim to them what will please them to hear, thus: Allah ascribed mercy unto Himself as an attribute to Him to the end that he who commits himself among you to an evil line of conduct in ignorance and in lowliest plight stands repentant thereafter and henceforth imprints his deeds with wisdom and piety shall find Allah Ghafurun and` Rahimun

*37). Several of those who came to believe in the Prophet (peace be on him) had committed many serious sins before they embraced Islam. Even though their lives had altogether changed following their conversion, the opposition continued to play up the weaknesses and misdeeds of their past life. The Prophet (peace he on him) is asked to comfort such persons and to tell them that God does not punish those who sincerely repent their sins and mend their ways.
