﴿قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُم مَّا جِئْنَا لِنُفْسِدَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا كُنَّا سَارِقِينَ﴾
[ يوسف: 73]

12:73 They said, "By Allah, you have certainly known that we did not come to cause corruption in the land, and we have not been thieves."

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

The brothers of Joseph swore by Allah that those accusing them knew they were free of blame and innocent of this, as they could see from their situation, and that they had not come to the land of Egypt to cause corruption in it, and that they had never been thieves.

Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

They said: "By Allah! Indeed you know that we came not to make mischief in the land, and we are no thieves!"

Qaloo taAllahi laqad AAalimtum ma jina linufsida fee alardi wama kunna sariqeena

(The brothers) said: "By Allah! well ye know that we came not to make mischief in the land, and we are no thieves!"
