surah Sad aya 8 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ﴾

38:8 Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishIs it right that the Qur’ān is revealed to him from amongst us and he is chosen for it, and it is not revealed to us whereas we are great leaders?” But these idolaters are in doubt about the revelation which is revealed to you.
And they have not yet tasted the punishment of Allah, so they have been deceived due to their being given respite.
If they were to taste it, they would not have the audacity to disbelieve in Allah and doubt what is revealed to you.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
"Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment!

Aonzila AAalayhi alththikru min baynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lamma yathooqoo AAathabi
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
"What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
"Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us" Nay, but they are in doubt about My Reminder! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) torment!

Who would credit they added, that of all of us he Muhammad was taken by preference to be entrusted with the divine message! The fact is says Allah. that they -the infidels- are in doubt of My divine message and they have not yet experienced the taste of My retributive punishment

(38:8) Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?' Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, *10 and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement.

*10) In other words Allah says: " Muhammad, these people are not belying you but Me. As for your truthfulness, they had never doubted it before; now that they are doubting it, it is because of My Admonition; now that I have entrusted to you the Mission of admonishing them, they have started doubting the truthfulness of the very person whose righteousness and piety they used to swear by " The same theme has also been discussed above in Al-An'am: 33 and E.N. 21 thereof.

کیا ہمارے درمیان بس یہی ایک شخص رہ گیا تھا جس پر اللہ کا ذکر نازل کر دیا گیا؟" اصل بات یہ ہے کہ یہ میرے "ذکر"پر شک کر رہے ہیں، اور یہ ساری باتیں اس لیے کر رہے ہیں کہ انہوں نے میرے عذاب کا مزا چکھا نہیں ہے
