Verse 89 from surah Al-Baqarah

﴿وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ وَكَانُوا مِن قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُم مَّا عَرَفُوا كَفَرُوا بِهِ ۚ فَلَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ﴾
[ البقرة: 89]

English - Sahih International

2:89 And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming that which was with them - although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved - but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah will be upon the disbelievers.

Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English

Abridged Explanation of the Quran

The Qur’ān came to them from Allah, agreeing with the universal true principles of the Torah and the Gospel.
Before it was revealed, they used to say that they would be helped against the idolaters, who worship others alongside Allah, and would have success over them when a prophet was sent, since they would have faith in him and follow him.
But when the Qur’ān and Muhammad ( peace be upon him ) came to them, according to the description they recognised and the truth they knew, they disbelieved him.
Allah curses those who disbelieve Him and His Prophet.

And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Quran) from Allah confirming what is with them [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], although aforetime they had invoked Allah (for coming of Muhammad Peace be upon him) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved, then when there came to them that which they had recognised, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers.

Walamma jaahum kitabun min AAindi Allahi musaddiqun lima maAAahum wakanoo min qablu yastaftihoona AAala allatheena kafaroo falamma jaahum ma AAarafoo kafaroo bihi falaAAnatu Allahi AAala alkafireena

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

And when there comes to them a Book from Allah, confirming what is with them,- although from of old they had prayed for victory against those without Faith,- when there comes to them that which they (should) have recognised, they refuse to believe in it but the curse of Allah is on those without Faith.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

When a Book was presented to them from Heaven, a Book , a treasure purposed to this life and life beyond, corroborating AL-Tawrah, they refused to accept it although it clearly foretold the Prophet Muhammads coming; an event they had always been expecting and at times wishing it be hastened on to help them get the upper hand in argument and gain advantages in arguments and victories in wars over those who deny Allah. Yet when the prophesy was fulfilled and the Prophet Muhammad came with the Quran, they refused to acknowledge the truth of his mission. Consequently, Allah has consigned those who deny Him to misery and their homes shall be cursed

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(2:89) And how are they behaving now towards a Book which has come to them from Allah? Inspite of the fact that it confirms the Scriptures which they already possessed. and, inspite of the fact that, before it came, they used to pray for a signal victory over the disbelievers, they rejected it when it came, although they recognized it. *95 May Allah's curse be upon such disbelievers!

اور اب جو ایک کتاب اللہ کی طرف سے ان کے پاس آئی ہے، اس کے ساتھ ان کا کیا برتاؤ ہے؟ باوجود یہ کہ وہ اس کتاب کی تصدیق کرتی ہے جو ان کے پاس پہلے سے موجو د تھی، باوجود یہ کہ اس کی آمد سے پہلے وہ خود کفار کے مقابلے میں فتح و نصرت کی دعائیں مانگا کرتے تھے، مگر جب وہ چیز آ گئی، جسے وہ پہچان بھی گئے تو، انہوں نے اسے ماننے سے انکار کر دیا خدا کی لعنت اِن منکرین پر
