Verse 120 from surah Al-Anam

﴿وَذَرُوا ظَاهِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْسِبُونَ الْإِثْمَ سَيُجْزَوْنَ بِمَا كَانُوا يَقْتَرِفُونَ﴾
[ الأنعام: 120]

English - Sahih International

6:120 And leave what is apparent of sin and what is concealed thereof. Indeed, those who earn [blame for] sin will be recompensed for that which they used to commit.

Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
Abridged Explanation of the Quran

O people, avoid committing sins openly or in secret.
Those who commit sins, secret or open, will be repaid by Allah for what they did.


Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali

Leave (O mankind, all kinds of) sin, open and secret. Verily, those who commit sin will get due recompense for that which they used to commit.

Watharoo thahira alithmi wabatinahu inna allatheena yaksiboona alithma sayujzawna bima kanoo yaqtarifoona


Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation


Eschew all sin, open or secret: those who earn sin will get due recompense for their "earnings."


Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri


Leave sin, open and secret. Verily, those who commit sin will get due recompense for that which they used to commit.) Mujahid said that,

And avoid the impious, the immoral and the sinful act whether it be apparent or real, committed openly or secretly or suggested secretly to the mind. Indeed those who commit themselves to an evil line of conduct shall be requited with what is commensurate with their evil deeds


Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(6:120) Abstain from sin, be it either open or secret. Indeed those who commit sins shall surely be requited for all they have done.
