surah Ghafir aya 74 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ قَالُوا ضَلُّوا عَنَّا بَل لَّمْ نَكُن نَّدْعُو مِن قَبْلُ شَيْئًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الْكَافِرِينَ﴾
[ غافر: 74]
40:74 Other than Allah?" They will say, "They have departed from us; rather, we did not used to invoke previously anything." Thus does Allah put astray the disbelievers.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishBesides Allah, from your idols who could not benefit or harm?” The disbelievers will say: “They have disappeared from us, so we cannot see them.
In fact, we did not worship anything in the world which deserved to be worshipped”.
In the way these people were led astray, Allah leads the disbelievers astray from the truth in every era and place.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
"Besides Allah" They will say: "They have vanished from us: Nay, we did not invoke (worship) anything before." Thus Allah leads astray the disbelievers.
phonetic Transliteration
Min dooni Allahi qaloo dalloo AAanna bal lam nakun nadAAoo min qablu shayan kathalika yudillu Allahu alkafireena
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
"In derogation of Allah?" They will reply: "They have left us in the lurch: Nay, we invoked not, of old, anything (that had real existence)." Thus does Allah leave the Unbelievers to stray.
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
"Besides Allah" They will say: "They have vanished from us. Nay, we did not call upon anything before." Thus Allah leads astray the disbelievers.
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".

وہ جواب دیں گے "کھوئے گئے وہ ہم سے، بلکہ ہم اس سے پہلے کسی چیز کو نہ پکارتے تھے" اِس طرح اللہ کافروں کا گمراہ ہونا متحقق کر دے گا
