Quran 10:27 Surah Yunus ayat 27 Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
10:27 But they who have earned [blame for] evil doings - the recompense of an evil deed is its equivalent, and humiliation will cover them. They will have from Allah no protector. It will be as if their faces are covered with pieces of the night - so dark [are they]. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

Quran 10:27 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
And for those wa’lladhīna is a supplement to li’lladhīna ahsanū ‘for those who do good’ so understand it as wa-li’lladhīna ‘and for those’ who earn evil deeds by practising idolatry there shall be the requital of an evil deed by the like thereof; ignominy shall overcome them — they have no protector no defender against God — as if their faces had been covered with cloaked in strips of darkest night read qita‘an as the plural of qit‘a; or qit‘an meaning juz’an ‘a part’. Those they are the inhabitants of the Fire therein they will abide.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
But those who have committed themselves to an evil line of conduct, the retribution for evil doing is evil of a like nature, in addition to the gloom and the mortification which shall overlay their faces. No one shall they find then to afford them protection against Allahs retributive punishment; their faces shall be coated with gloom; a painful distressing darkness they will have to assume, as if they were wearing a mask made by a mould of a pitch-dark night These are the Inmates of Hell wherein they will have passed through nature to eternal suffering
Quran 10:27 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
The Reward of the Wicked Criminals
After Allah told us about the state of those happy people who have done right and He promised increase in reward, He continued to tell us about the unlucky, miserable ones.
He told us about His justice with them.
He will reward them with similar evil, without any increase
( and will cover them ) meaning that their faces will be covered and overtaken by humiliation because of their sins and their fear from these sins.
Similarly Allah said:
( And you will see them brought forward to it, (Hell ) made humble by disgrace.)42:45 He also said:
( Consider not that Allah is unaware of that which the wrongdoers do, but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror.
(They will be ) hastening forward with necks outstretched, their heads raised up ( towards the sky ).)14:42 - 43 Allah then said:
( No defender will they have from Allah. ) meaning, there will be no protectors to prevent them from punishment as Allah said:
( On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge ) to flee" No! There is no refuge! Unto your Lord ( alone ) will be the place of rest that Day.)75:10-12 Allah's statement:
( Their faces will be covered as it were... ) means that their faces will be dark in the Hereafter.
This is similar to His statement:
( On the Day (the Day of Resurrection ) when some faces will become white and some faces will become black; as for those whose faces will become black ( to them will be said ): "Did you reject faith after accepting it Then taste the torment ( in Hell ) for rejecting faith." And for those whose faces will become white, they will be in Allah's mercy ( Paradise ), therein they shall dwell forever.)3:106-107 He also said:
( Some faces that Day will be bright, laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise ).
And other faces that Day will be dust-stained.
)80:38-40
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(10:27) Those who do evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is its like, *34 and humiliation shall spread over them and there will be none to protect them from Allah. Darkness will cover their faces as though they were veiled with the dark blackness of night. *35 These are the people of the Fire and in it they shall abide.
But they who have earned [blame for] meaning
*34).
The manner in which the evil ones will be treated is quite different from the way in which the righteous will be treated.
As we have seen, the reward of the righteous will be far in excess of their good deeds.
However, so far as the evil-doers are concerned, their punishment will be strictly in proportion to the evil they have committed, not even an iota more than that.
( For further elaboration see a!-Nahl 16, n.
109a. )
*35).
This refers to the darkness and gloom that covers the faces of the criminals after they have been seized and after they have lost all hope of escaping God's punishment.

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( And those who earn ill deeds ) those who associate partners with Allah, ( (for them ) requital of each ill deed by the like thereof) Allah says: the retaliation for associating partners with Allah is hell; ( and ignominy overtaketh them ) grief and gloominess will appear on their faces. ( They have no protector ) no one to save them ( from Allah ) from the punishment of Allah. ( As if their faces had been covered with a cloak of darkest night ) i.e. of darkness. ( Such are rightful owners of the Fire ) the folk of hell; ( they will abide therein ) for ever.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And those who have earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and humiliating disgrace will cover them (their faces). No defender will they have from Allah. Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the darkness of night. They are dwellers of the Fire, they will abide therein forever.
