Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And narrate O Muhammad to the people what is discoursed in the Book -the Quran- relative to Idris, -possibly he was Ozoris or he was not, or he was Enoch or was not and it seems that he was sent before Ibrahim-. He was a man who kept Allahs truth so pure and his words together with his deeds accorded ,he was a Prophet
Quran 19:56 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Mentioning Idris
Allah complimented Idris for being a truthful Prophet and He mentioned that he raised him to a high station.
It has previously been mentioned that in the Sahih it is recorded that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Idris on the night of the Isra ( Night Journey ) and he ( Idris ) was in the fourth heaven.
Sufyan reported from Mansur that Mujahid said,
وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَاناً عَلِيّاً
( And We raised him to a high station. ) "This means the fourth heaven." Al-Hasan and others said concer- ning Allah's statement,
وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَاناً عَلِيّاً
( And We raised him to a high station. ) "This means Paradise."
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(19:56) And make a mention in this Book of Idris: *33 he was a righteous man, and a Prophet;
And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, meaning
*33) There is a difference of opinion as to who Prophet Idris was.
Some commentators opine that he was a Prophet from among the Israelites, but the majority of them are inclined to the view that he was a Prophet before Noah.
There is no authentic Tradition which may help determine his identity.
The next verse ( 58 ), however, supports the view that he appeared before Prophet Noah.
For of alI the Prophets mentioned, he alone was the one who may be said to be " from the descendants of Adam.
"
The commentators are of the opinion that Idris was Enoch of the Old Testament, about whom it is said:
" And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years....
and he was not; for God took him. " ( Gen.
5: 21-24 )
In Talmud, there are greater details about Enoch, which are briefly as follows: " Before Noah when the descendants of Adam began to degenerate, the angel of God called to Enoch, who led a pious life away from the people, and said, 'O Enoch, arise, come out from seclusion, and go about among the people of the earth, guiding them to the path which they should follow and the ways which they should adopt.'
"Receiving this Divine Command, Enoch left his seclusion and gathered the people together and preached to them what he had been commanded, with the result that they listened to him and adopted the worship of God.
Enoch ruled over mankind for 353 years: his rule was based on justice and truth, and consequently God favoured mankind with all kinds of blessings." ( H.

18-21 )

( And make mention in the Scripture of Idris ) of the event of Idris. ( Lo! he was a saint ) he believed in his faith, ( a prophet ) informing on behalf of Allah;
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And mention in the Book (the Quran) Idris (Enoch). Verily! He was a man of truth, (and) a Prophet.
