Quran 12:66 Surah Yusuf ayat 66 Tafsir Ibn Katheer in English
12:66 [Jacob] said, "Never will I send him with you until you give me a promise by Allah that you will bring him [back] to me, unless you should be surrounded by enemies." And when they had given their promise, he said, "Allah, over what we say, is Witness."

Quran 12:66 Tafsir Al-Jalalayn
He said ‘I will not send him with you until you give me a solemn pledge a covenant in the name of God by your swearing an oath that assuredly you will bring him back to me unless you are besieged’ such that you die or are overwhelmed and thus unable to bring him back. They agreed to this. And when they gave him their solemn pledge to this effect he said ‘God shall be Guardian Witness over what we say’ we and you. Thus he sent him with them.
Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
The father said: I will not send him –Benjamin- with you until you have given me a binding oath with a solemn appeal to Allah in witness that you shall bring him back to me unless you are surrounded ,,. Having made an oath to him, he said to them: There, shall Allah be our witness Who stands guard over what we discourse
Quran 12:66 Tafsir Ibn Kathir
They find Their Money returned to Their Bags
Allah says, when Yusuf's brothers opened their bags, they found their merchandise inside them, for Yusuf had ordered his servants to return it to their bags.
When they found their merchandise in their bags,
( They said: "O our father! What (more ) can we desire..."), what more can we ask for,
( This, our money has been returned to us; ) Qatadah commented ( that they said ), "What more can we ask for, our merchandise was returned to us and the `Aziz has given us the sufficient load we wanted" They said next,
( so we shall get (more ) food for our family,), `if you send our brother with us the next time we go to buy food for our family,'
( and we shall guard our brother and add one more measure of a camel's load. ) since Yusuf, peace be upon him, gave each man a camel's load of corn.
( This quantity is easy (for the king to give ).) They said these words to make their case more appealing, saying that taking their brother with them is worth this gain,
( He Ya`qub (Jacob ) said: "I will not send him with you until you swear a solemn oath to me in Allah's Name..."), until you swear by Allah with the strongest oath,
( that you will bring him back to me unless you are yourselves surrounded (by enemies )), unless you were all overwhelmed and were unable to rescue him,
( And when they had sworn their solemn oath ), he affirmed it further, saying,
( Allah is the Witness to what we have said. ) Ibn Ishaq commented, "Ya`qub did that because he had no choice but to send them to bring necessary food supplies for their survival.
So he sent Binyamin with them."

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
( He said ) their father said to them: ( I will not send him with you ) simply because of your mere talk ( till ye give me an undertaking ) a pledge ( in the name of Allah that you will bring him back to me, unless you are surrounded ) unless an accident from heaven befalls you; it is also said that this means: unless an accident from heaven or from the earth descends upon you. ( And when they gave him their undertaking ) when they gave him their pledge in the name of Allah that they will bring him back ( he said ) Jacob said: ( Allah is the Warden over what we say ) Allah is a Witness over what we say; it is also said that this means: Allah is Custodian over what we say.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
He [Ya'qub (Jacob)] said: "I will not send him with you until you swear a solemn oath to me in Allah's Name, that you will bring him back to me unless you are yourselves surrounded (by enemies, etc.)," And when they had sworn their solemn oath, he said: "Allah is the Witness over what we have said."
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
