Surah Yunus ayat 78 Tafsir Quran 10:78

﴿قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَلْفِتَنَا عَمَّا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا وَتَكُونَ لَكُمَا الْكِبْرِيَاءُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكُمَا بِمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾
[ يونس: 78]

10:78 They said, "Have you come to us to turn us away from that upon which we found our fathers and so that you two may have grandeur in the land? And we are not believers in you."

They said ‘Have you come to us to divert us to turn us away from what we found our fathers following and that yours both might be the greatness the kingship in the land the land of Egypt? We will not believe you two’.

They said to Mussa: Did you come to us to dissuade us to disregard our fathers system of faith and worship in order to be the distinguished above all others and the exalted in rank and station in the land! Never. Notwithstanding that we do not believe you nor do we give credence to your message

The Story of Musa and Fira`wn Allah said: ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا ( Then after them We sent ) meaning ofter these Messengers, مُّوسَى وَهَـرُونَ إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ ( Musa and Harun to Fir`awn and his chiefs, ) meaning his people بِـَايَـتِنَآ ( with Our Ayat. ) meaning; `Our proofs and evidences.' فَاسْتَكْبَرُواْ وَكَانُواْ قَوْماً مُّجْرِمِينَ ( But they behaved arrogantly, and were a people who were criminals. ) meaning they were too arrogant to follow the truth and submit to it, and they were criminals. فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُواْ إِنَّ هَـذَا لَسِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ ( So, when came to them the truth from us, they said: "This is indeed clear magic." ) They were as if they gave an oath that what they had said was the truth.
But they knew that what they were saying was a mere lie.
As Allah said: وَجَحَدُواْ بِهَا وَاسْتَيْقَنَتْهَآ أَنفُسُهُمْ ظُلْماً وَعُلُوّاً ( And they belied them wrongfully and arrogantly, though they themselves were convinced thereof.
)( 27:14 ) Musa criticized them saying: أَتقُولُونَ لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَكُمْ أَسِحْرٌ هَـذَا وَلاَ يُفْلِحُ السَّـحِرُونَقَالُواْ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَلْفِتَنَا ( "Say you (this ) about the truth when it has come to you Is this magic But the magicians will never be successful." They said: "Have you come to us to turn us away...) عَمَّا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءابَاءَنَا ( from that we found our fathers following ) their religion. وَتَكُونَ لَكُمَا ( and that you two may have... ) الْكِبْرِيَآءُ ( greatness ) means grandeur and leadership فِى الاٌّرْضِ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكُمَا بِمُؤْمِنِينَ ( ...in the land, We are not going to believe you two!" )

(10:78) They replied: 'Have you come to turn us away from the way of our forefathers that the two of you might become supreme in the land? *76 We shall never accept what the two of you say.'

They said, "Have you come to us meaning

*76).Had the sole demand of Moses and Aaron ( peace be on him ) been the liberation of the Israelites, Pharaoh and his courtiers would not have suspected that the spread of these Prophets' message would transform the religion of the land and that the supremacy of Pharaoh and his courtiers would be undermined.
What made them uneasy was the fact that Prophet Moses ( peace be on him ) was inviting the people of Egypt to the true faith and that this posed a threat to the whole polytheistic way of life which was the very cornerstone of the predominance of Pharaoh and his chiefs and clergy.

( They said ) to Moses: ( Hast thou come unto us to pervert us from that (faith ) in which we found our fathers) of idol worship, ( and that you two may own the place of greatness ) sovereignty and power ( in the land ) of Egypt? ( We will not believe you two ).

They said: "Have you come to us to turn us away from that (Faith) we found our fathers following, - and that you two may have greatness in the land? We are not going to believe you two!"
