Verse 32 from Al-Jaathiyah in Arabic

﴿وَإِذَا قِيلَ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَالسَّاعَةُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا قُلْتُم مَّا نَدْرِي مَا السَّاعَةُ إِن نَّظُنُّ إِلَّا ظَنًّا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُسْتَيْقِنِينَ﴾
[ الجاثية: 32]

Wa-itha qeela inna waAAda Allahi haqqun wassaAAatu la rayba feeha qultum ma nadree ma assaAAatu in nathunnu illa thannan wama nahnu bimustayqineen

wa iżā qīla inna wa'dallāhi ḥaqquw was-sā'atu lā raiba fīhā qultum mā nadrī mas-sā'atu in naẓunnu illā ẓannaw wa mā naḥnu bimustaiqinīn


English translation of the meaning

And when it was said, 'Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth and the Hour [is coming] - no doubt about it,' you said, 'We know not what is the Hour. We assume only assumption, and we are not convinced.' "

Wa `Idha Qila `Inna Wa`da Allahi Haqqun Wa As-Sa`atu La Rayba Fiha Qultum Ma Nadri Ma As-Sa`atu `In Nazunnu `Illa Zannaan Wa Ma Nahnu Bimustayqinina

اور جب کہا جاتا تھا کہ اللہ کا وعدہ برحق ہے اور قیامت کے آنے میں کوئی شک نہیں، تو تم کہتے تھے کہ ہم نہیں جانتے قیامت کیا ہوتی ہے، ہم تو بس ایک گمان سا رکھتے ہیں، یقین ہم کو نہیں ہے"

And when it was said: "Verily! Allah's Promise is the truth, and there is no doubt about the coming of the Hour," you said; "We know not what is the Hour, we do not think it but as a conjecture, and we have no firm convincing belief (therein)."

Dan apabila dikatakan (kepadamu), “Sungguh, janji Allah itu benar, dan hari Kiamat itu tidak diragukan adanya,” kamu menjawab, “Kami tidak tahu apakah hari Kiamat itu, kami hanyalah menduga-duga saja, dan kami tidak yakin.”

Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi

(45:32) And when it was said to them: 'Surely Allah's promise is true, and there is no doubt regarding the Hour of Resurrection,' you were wont to say: 'We do not know what the Hour (of Resurrection) is. We are simply making conjectures and are not at all certain.' *44

Wa izaa qeela inna wa`dallaahi haqqunw was Saa`atu laa raiba feehaa qultum maa nadree mas Saa`atu in nazunnu illaa zannanw wa maa nahnu bimustaiqineen

*44) The people mentioned in verse 24 above were those who denied the Hereafter openly and absolutely, here those who are not sure of it although they do not deny its possibility because of conjecture. Apparently there is a vast difference between the two groups in that one of them denies the Hereafter absolutely and the other regards it as possible on the basis of conjecture. But as for the result and final end, there is no difference between them, for the moral consequences of the denial of the Hereafter and of lack of the faith in it are the same. A person whether he disbelieves in the Hereafter or lacks faith in it, will in either case be inevitably devoid of the feeling of accountability before God, and this lack of feeling will necessarily involve him in the error and deviation of thought and action. Only faith and belief in the Hereafter can keep a man on the right track in the world. In the absence of it, both doubt and denial give him a similar attitude of irresponsibility, and since this same attitude of irresponsibility is the real cause of man's being doomed in the Hereafter, therefore neither the denier of it can escape I loll nor the one who lacks faith in it.
