Slander (False Accusation) in the Holy Quran

﴿وَإِنۡ أَرَدتُّمُ ٱسۡتِبۡدَالَ زَوۡجٖ مَّكَانَ زَوۡجٖ وَءَاتَيۡتُمۡ إِحۡدَىٰهُنَّ قِنطَارٗا فَلَا تَأۡخُذُواْ مِنۡهُ شَيۡـًٔاۚ أَتَأۡخُذُونَهُۥ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا ﴾ [An-Nisā’: 20]

(20) But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?

Surah: An-Nisā’ - Verse: 20 - Juz: 4 - Page: 81

﴿وَمَن يَكۡسِبۡ خَطِيٓـَٔةً أَوۡ إِثۡمٗا ثُمَّ يَرۡمِ بِهِۦ بَرِيٓـٔٗا فَقَدِ ٱحۡتَمَلَ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا ﴾ [An-Nisā’: 112]

(112) But whoever earns an offense or a sin and then blames it on an innocent [person] has taken upon himself a slander and manifest sin.

Surah: An-Nisā’ - Verse: 112 - Juz: 5 - Page: 96

﴿وَبِكُفۡرِهِمۡ وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ عَلَىٰ مَرۡيَمَ بُهۡتَٰنًا عَظِيمٗا ﴾ [An-Nisā’: 156]

(156) And [We cursed them] for their disbelief and their saying against Mary a great slander,

Surah: An-Nisā’ - Verse: 156 - Juz: 6 - Page: 103

﴿ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرۡمُونَ ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَأۡتُواْ بِأَرۡبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَٱجۡلِدُوهُمۡ ثَمَٰنِينَ جَلۡدَةٗ وَلَا تَقۡبَلُواْ لَهُمۡ شَهَٰدَةً أَبَدٗاۚ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡفَٰسِقُونَ * إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصۡلَحُواْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ ﴾ [An-Nūr: 4-5]

(4) And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept from them testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient,

(5) Except for those who repent thereafter and reform, for indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Surah: An-Nūr - Verse: 4-5 - Juz: 18 - Page: 350

﴿وَلَوۡلَآ إِذۡ سَمِعۡتُمُوهُ قُلۡتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا سُبۡحَٰنَكَ هَٰذَا بُهۡتَٰنٌ عَظِيمٞ ﴾ [An-Nūr: 16]

(16) And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this. Exalted are You, [O Allah]; this is a great slander"?

Surah: An-Nūr - Verse: 16 - Juz: 18 - Page: 351

﴿إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلۡفَٰحِشَةُ فِي ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ﴾ [An-Nūr: 19]

(19) Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know.

Surah: An-Nūr - Verse: 19 - Juz: 18 - Page: 351

﴿ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرۡمُونَ ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ ٱلۡغَٰفِلَٰتِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ لُعِنُواْ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ * يَوۡمَ تَشۡهَدُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ أَلۡسِنَتُهُمۡ وَأَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَأَرۡجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ * يَوۡمَئِذٖ يُوَفِّيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَيَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ ٱلۡمُبِينُ ﴾ [An-Nūr: 23-25]

(23) Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment

(24) On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.

(25) That Day, Allah will pay them in full their deserved recompense, and they will know that it is Allah who is the perfect in justice.

Surah: An-Nūr - Verse: 23-24-25 - Juz: 18 - Page: 352

﴿وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡذُونَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ بِغَيۡرِ مَا ٱكۡتَسَبُواْ فَقَدِ ٱحۡتَمَلُواْ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا ﴾ [Al-Aḥzāb: 58]

(58) And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly born upon themselves a slander and manifest sin.

Surah: Al-Aḥzāb - Verse: 58 - Juz: 22 - Page: 426

﴿يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِن جَآءَكُمۡ فَاسِقُۢ بِنَبَإٖ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓاْ أَن تُصِيبُواْ قَوۡمَۢا بِجَهَٰلَةٖ فَتُصۡبِحُواْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلۡتُمۡ نَٰدِمِينَ ﴾ [Al-Ḥujurāt: 6]

(6) O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.

Surah: Al-Ḥujurāt - Verse: 6 - Juz: 26 - Page: 516

﴿وَلَا تُطِعۡ كُلَّ حَلَّافٖ مَّهِينٍ ﴾ [Al-Qalam: 10]

(10) And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer

Surah: Al-Qalam - Verse: 10 - Juz: 29 - Page: 564

﴿سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلۡخُرۡطُومِ ﴾ [Al-Qalam: 16]

(16) We will brand him upon the snout.

Surah: Al-Qalam - Verse: 16 - Juz: 29 - Page: 564

﴿وَيۡلٞ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٖ لُّمَزَةٍ ﴾ [Al-Humazah: 1]

(1) Woe to every scorner and mocker

Surah: Al-Humazah - Verse: 1 - Juz: 30 - Page: 601
