surah Araf aya 136 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ﴾
[ الأعراف: 136]
7:136 So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishSo when the appointed time came for their destruction, I unleashed My punishment on them and drowned them in the sea because of their rejection of the signs of Allah and because they turned away from the truth about which there was no doubt.

So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless about them.

So We exacted retribution from them: We drowned them in the sea, because they rejected Our Signs and failed to take warning from them.
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat and were heedless with them.
