surah Zukhruf aya 20 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿وَقَالُوا لَوْ شَاءَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَاهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ﴾
[ الزخرف: 20]
43:20 And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but falsifying.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishAnd they say, using divine decree as evidence, “If Allah willed that we did not worship the angels, we would not have worshipped them.
So because He willed for it to happen, it proves He was happy with it.
” They make this statement out of ignorance; they are only lying.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
And they said: "If it had been the Will of the Most Beneficent (Allah), we should not have worshipped them (false deities)." They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do nothing but lie!
phonetic Transliteration
Waqaloo law shaa alrrahmanu ma AAabadnahum ma lahum bithalika min AAilmin in hum illa yakhrusoona
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
("Ah!") they say, "If it had been the will of (Allah) Most Gracious, we should not have worshipped such (deities)!" Of that they have no knowledge! they do nothing but lie!
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
And they said: "If it had been the will of the Most Gracious, we should not have worshipped them." They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do nothing but lie!
We try our best to translate, keeping in mind the Italian saying: "Traduttore, traditore", which means: "Translation is a betrayal of the original text".
43:20 And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not translate in arabic
وقالوا لو شاء الرحمن ما عبدناهم ما لهم بذلك من علم إن هم إلا يخرصون

And they allegedly say: Had Allah, AL-Rahman, so willed we would never have worshipped -these corporate deities-. They are not acquainted with the truth nor do they have information or proof to support their allegation; they simply lic and indeed they lie in their teeth
Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi
(43:20) They say: 'Had the Merciful One so willed, we would never have worshipped these deities.' *20 But they have no knowledge of the matter and are simply conjecturing.
And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not meaning
*20) This was their reasoning from destiny to cover up their deviation and error, and this has been the argument of the wrong-doers in every age. They argued that their worshipping the angels became possible only because Allah allowed them to do so. Had He not willed so they could not have done it; and then it had been a practice with them for centuries and no torment from Allah had descended on them, which meant that Allah did not disapprove of their this practice.
And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not meaning in Urdu
یہ کہتے ہیں "اگر خدائے رحمٰن چاہتا (کہ ہم اُن کی عبادت نہ کریں) تو ہم کبھی اُن کو نہ پوجتے" یہ اس معاملے کی حقیقت کو قطعی نہیں جانتے، محض تیر تکے لڑاتے ہیں
