surah Kahf aya 64 , English translation of the meaning Ayah.
﴿قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِ ۚ فَارْتَدَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا﴾
[ الكهف: 64]
18:64 [Moses] said, "That is what we were seeking." So they returned, following their footprints.
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishMoses ( peace be upon him ) said to his servant: That is what we were looking for, for that is the sign of the place of the righteous servant.
So they turned back retracing their steps, so that they do not lose the way until they reached the rock and from there the entry point of the fish.
Muhammad Taqiud-Din alHilali
[Musa (Moses)] said: "That is what we have been seeking." So they went back retracing their footsteps.

Qala thalika ma kunna nabghi fairtadda AAala atharihima qasasan
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
Moses said: "That was what we were seeking after:" So they went back on their footsteps, following (the path they had come).
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
[Musa] said: "That is what we have been seeking." So they went back retracing their footsteps.
