[He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of (19:7)

﴿يَا زَكَرِيَّا إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ اسْمُهُ يَحْيَىٰ لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّا﴾
[ مريم: 7]

19:7 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name."

So Allah accepted his supplication and called out to him: “O Zechariah, I am informing you of what will please you.
I have accepted your supplication and granted you a boy whose name will be John.
I have not given this name to anyone before him”.

(Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)."

phonetic Transliteration

Ya zakariyya inna nubashshiruka bighulamin ismuhu yahya lam najAAal lahu min qablu samiyyan

Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation

(His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before."

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

(Allah said:) "O Zakariyya! Verily, We give you the good news of a son, whose name will be Yahya. We have given that name to none before (him)."
