﴿قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِينَ﴾
[ الشعراء: 71]
26:71 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted."
Tafsir Ibn Katheer in EnglishHis people said to him, “I worship idols, whose worship I remain firm upon and hold fast to.
”

They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."

Qaloo naAAbudu asnaman fanathallu laha AAakifeena
Abdullah Yusuf Ali - Translation
They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them."
Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri
They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."

(26:71) They answered, "These are idols which we worship and we serve them devotedly." *52

*52) Though everybody knew that they worshipped idols, their answer implied that they were firm in faith and their hearts were satisfied with it, as if to say, "We also know that these are idols of stone and wood, which we worship, but our faith demands that we should serve and worship them devotedly."
